Junior Analog Design Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. CMOS analog fundamentals, Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre simulation, basic op-amp and comparator design, Python scripting, lab measurement basics
About the role
You will join an analog design team at a semiconductor company as a junior designer, learning the craft of analog integrated circuits while contributing to real blocks from your first months. Junior analog designers take on well-defined circuit tasks under senior mentorship: designing sub-blocks, running simulations, assisting with layout, and participating in lab validation. This is a deliberate apprenticeship in one of engineering's most demanding disciplines, where your growth in circuit intuition is an explicit goal and every design you touch teaches you something fundamental.
What you will achieve
- Design analog sub-blocks such as bias circuits, simple amplifiers, or switch networks under senior guidance, meeting assigned specifications with clean schematics and thorough simulation.
- Run comprehensive simulations across corners and Monte Carlo analysis, learning to interpret results critically and to distinguish genuine design issues from modeling artifacts.
- Assist with block-level layout supervision, learning the matching, symmetry, and parasitic practices that separate working analog layout from merely connected schematics.
- Participate in silicon validation through bench measurements, developing hands-on lab skills and learning to correlate measured results against simulation predictions.
- Build your circuit intuition deliberately through design reviews, mentorship, and post-silicon post-mortems, progressing from executing defined tasks to proposing design approaches.
- Document your work clearly with simulation summaries, design notes, and measurement reports that meet the team's standards and build your professional reputation.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 0 to 2 years of relevant experience, or a strong graduate degree in electrical engineering with analog IC design coursework, tapeout projects, or research.
- Solid analog fundamentals: transistor operation, small-signal models, feedback theory, and frequency response.
- Basic proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso and Spectre from coursework or projects.
- Genuine fascination with analog circuits and the patience for meticulous, iterative design work.
- Strong analytical skills and the discipline to verify hand calculations against simulation.
- Clear communication and the humility to ask questions, accept detailed critique, and learn continuously.
- Reliability: you complete assignments thoroughly, communicate status proactively, and seek help before small issues grow.
Nice-to-haves
- Graduate research or thesis in analog or mixed-signal circuit design.
- Tapeout experience from university shuttle programs or internships.
- Familiarity with Python or SKILL for simulation automation.
- Basic lab equipment experience with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, or source meters.
