Staff Electrical Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Altium Designer or Cadence Allegro, SPICE, signal integrity simulation, Python automation, design review leadership, DFMEA, power distribution network analysis, ECAD library governance
About the role
You will operate as a staff-level electrical engineer at a hardware company with several product teams sharing common electrical platforms. Your scope deliberately crosses team boundaries: you will guide architecture decisions on multiple programs simultaneously, kill systemic design problems at their root instead of firefighting symptoms, and raise the technical level of every team you touch. This is a force-multiplier role built for an engineer whose designs work the first time and whose judgment other engineers actively seek out.
What you will achieve
- Own the electrical platform shared by multiple product teams, evolving common power, control, and interface blocks so each new product starts from proven, characterized foundations instead of blank schematics.
- Cut cross-team design escapes by leading architecture reviews on every major program and enforcing simulation and margin analysis before layout begins, catching issues when they are cheap.
- Drive resolution of systemic issues found in production or the field, tracing them to root causes in design practice and updating standards and checklists so they never recur anywhere in the company.
- Deliver reference designs and bring-up guides that let product teams integrate complex subsystems in weeks instead of months, with measured bring-up times to prove it.
- Mentor senior engineers across teams, growing the organization's bench of technical leaders who can operate with your level of independence.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 8 to 12 years of electrical design experience spanning more than one product line or team.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction beyond your own team through reviews, standards, and reference designs that others actually adopt.
- Deep bench debug capability on multi-board systems, including power integrity, signal integrity, and EMI issues.
- Experience with design reuse: building blocks, libraries, and platforms with documented adoption by other engineers.
- Strong written communication: architecture documents, review feedback, and design guides that teams reference for years.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with high-speed interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, DDR) or high-power conversion stages.
- Familiarity with PLM systems and ECAD library governance at organizational scale.
- Background in contract manufacturer relationships and DFM at production volumes.
- Knowledge of value engineering methods for cost-optimized redesigns.
