Lead Electrical Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Altium Designer, SPICE, project scheduling and work breakdown, design review facilitation, Python test automation, requirements management, risk tracking, hiring and onboarding
About the role
You will lead a small team of electrical engineers at a company developing connected industrial control products on aggressive timelines. You will split your time between hands-on design of the hardest circuits and the technical leadership that keeps four to six engineers shipping together instead of stepping on each other. Your success is measured in working hardware delivered on schedule, certification passed without drama, and a team that is visibly stronger every quarter under your guidance. You will mentor junior and mid-level engineers through design reviews, pair debugging, and structured feedback that accelerates their growth measurably each quarter. You will also partner with program management to scope work accurately, sequence dependencies across the team, and keep delivery commitments the business can plan around.
What you will achieve
- Ship two or more board-level products per year through your team, hitting EVT, DVT, and PVT milestones on the committed dates quarter after quarter.
- Own the most challenging designs personally, such as the main system board or the power architecture, setting the quality bar by example rather than by mandate.
- Build a review culture where every schematic and layout receives rigorous peer scrutiny, cutting post-layout surprises and respins to near zero across the team.
- Grow each team member deliberately through stretch assignments, honest feedback, and clear development plans, promoting at least one engineer to the next level of independence per year.
- Drive clear technical communication upward and outward: status, risks, and trade-offs presented so program management can make decisions with confidence.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 7 or more years of electrical design experience with products shipped to production at volume.
- Prior experience technically leading other engineers, formally or informally, with shipped results to show for it.
- Strong design fundamentals across schematic capture, layout review, bring-up, validation, and certification.
- Ability to plan and sequence electrical work across a multi-board program with realistic dependencies and buffers.
- Calm, structured approach to debug crises and schedule pressure that steadies the team.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience hiring, onboarding, and performance-managing electrical engineers.
- Familiarity with Agile or stage-gate hardware development processes.
- Background in wireless or connected products (BLE, WiFi, cellular) including antenna integration.
- Knowledge of design-for-test strategies that reduce manufacturing cost.
