Senior Firmware Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Advanced C/C++, multi-MCU architectures, RTOS internals (FreeRTOS/Zephyr), wireless stacks (BLE/WiFi), secure boot and OTA, power optimization, system architecture, technical mentorship, HIL testing, static analysis
About the role
You will be a technical anchor on a firmware team building connected devices that must be reliable, secure, and power-efficient for years in customers' hands. Senior firmware engineers here own significant technical scope: complete firmware architectures, wireless subsystems, and secure update systems that entire products depend on. You are expected to see around corners consistently, identifying timing risks, power regressions, and security gaps months before they would become field failures. Your code sets the standard for the team, your reviews teach lasting lessons, and your judgment on architectural trade-offs is trusted across hardware, software, and product organizations. This role is for engineers who have moved beyond writing good firmware to building good devices.
What you will achieve
- Own complete firmware architectures from bootloader through application layer, delivering reliable, maintainable, well-documented systems that ship on schedule repeatedly
- Drive measurable power improvements across products: extending battery life through architectural changes validated with precise, long-term current profiling
- Lead wireless subsystem development spanning BLE and WiFi: robust connectivity, thorough interoperability testing, and disciplined certification with no surprises
- Mentor firmware engineers through detailed code reviews, hands-on debug pairing, and architecture guidance that visibly accelerates their professional growth
- Establish firmware engineering standards for coding guidelines, test requirements, and review practices that measurably reduce defects across the team
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 5 to 8 years writing production firmware with demonstrated ownership of complete device firmware architectures through multiple product cycles
- Deep understanding of microcontroller architectures: memory maps, bus fabrics, clock trees, peripheral interconnects, and their performance implications
- Experience with wireless communication stacks including BLE, WiFi, or similar, covering RF-adjacent debugging and certification processes
- Strong grasp of real-time constraints: interrupt latency budgets, task prioritization schemes, watchdog strategy, and rigorous timing analysis
- Proven ability to debug complex system issues spanning firmware, hardware, and RF domains with systematic, instrumented, well-documented analysis
- Track record of technical leadership: driving architecture decisions, writing clear design documents, and influencing cross-functional technical plans
- BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering; MS preferred for the depth this senior role demands
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with secure boot implementations, encrypted firmware updates, and device identity provisioning at manufacturing scale
- Familiarity with low-power wireless protocols: Zigbee, Thread, Matter, or LoRaWAN in shipping products
- Knowledge of functional safety standards such as IEC 61508 or ISO 26262 applied to firmware development processes
- Experience building automated hardware-in-the-loop testing frameworks for firmware regression suites
