Vehicle Testing/Validation Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. VBOX, Dewesoft, CANoe, HIL rigs, proving ground instrumentation, DVP&R systems, MATLAB/Python, environmental chambers
About the role
You will join the vehicle validation team of an automaker responsible for proving the vehicle meets every requirement before customers ever touch it. The team owns test planning, execution, and sign-off across durability, performance, environmental, and regulatory domains. This role matters because validation is the last line of defense: your test plans find the failures that design reviews missed, and your sign-off is the evidence the company stands behind at launch. You will design test campaigns that prove durability, safety, and performance with statistical confidence, not just anecdote, across climate extremes from arctic cold to desert heat. Your instrumentation plans will capture the data that matters while staying within channel-count and budget constraints, and your analysis will separate real failures from test artifacts. You will also own the proving-ground schedule, coordinating prototype vehicles, drivers, and facilities so every test mile produces usable evidence.
What you will achieve
- Deliver DVP&R test plans covering 500+ test cases per program with execution tracking above 95 percent complete before each gateway
- Cut test-driven design churn by 25 percent through early involvement: reviewing DFMEAs and shaping validation strategy before hardware exists
- Own proving ground and lab test execution: instrumentation, data acquisition, and first-level analysis for durability and performance testing
- Drive issue closure with structured root-cause analysis, linking every test failure to a design or process corrective action
- Ship homologation and regulatory test evidence (crash, emissions, EMC) with first-pass acceptance from certification bodies
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of experience in automotive testing, validation, or test engineering roles
- Strong understanding of DVP&R methodology: test planning, sample sizing, and acceptance criteria
- Hands-on experience with data acquisition systems (VBOX, Dewesoft) and vehicle instrumentation
- Familiarity with proving ground operations: durability schedules, performance testing, and safety protocols
- Working knowledge of environmental testing: thermal, vibration, corrosion, and ingress standards
- Data analysis skills in MATLAB or Python for processing large test datasets
- Disciplined documentation: test reports that design teams and auditors can rely on
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with HIL/SIL testing for controls and software validation
- Knowledge of regulatory test procedures (FMVSS, ECE, EPA)
- Familiarity with accelerated life testing and Weibull analysis
- Test driver training or high-performance driving experience
