Vehicle Dynamics Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Adams Car, CarSim, MATLAB/Simulink, K&C test rigs, VBOX data acquisition, tire modeling tools, steering and suspension design references
About the role
You will join the vehicle dynamics team of an automaker responsible for how the car feels: steering response, ride comfort, handling balance, and stability at the limit. The team owns suspension tuning, steering calibration, and chassis controls from simulation through final sign-off drives. This role matters because dynamics are what reviewers praise and customers feel every day, and your tuning judgment turns a competent platform into a vehicle with character. You will develop chassis tuning philosophies that give the vehicle a consistent character across drive modes, from comfort to sport, validated through both objective metrics and subjective evaluation drives. Your simulation models will predict handling balance, ride comfort, and steering feel before prototype tires touch pavement, cutting tuning iterations. You will also define the ESC and torque-vectoring calibration envelopes, ensuring stability systems intervene invisibly until the moment they are truly needed.
What you will achieve
- Deliver chassis tuning meeting ride, handling, and steering targets with subjective ratings above program benchmarks across all drive modes
- Cut development iterations by 25 percent through correlated Adams/CarSim models predicting K&C and full-vehicle behavior within 5 percent of test
- Own damper, spring, bushing, and anti-roll bar specifications with tuning changes validated through instrumented testing and driver clinics
- Drive ESC and torque-vectoring calibration that keeps the vehicle stable at the limit while preserving driver engagement
- Ship final dynamics sign-off with objective metrics (understeer gradient, yaw gain, ride comfort indices) all inside target bands
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of experience in vehicle dynamics, chassis tuning, or suspension design roles
- Deep understanding of suspension kinematics, tire mechanics (Pacejka models), and ride/handling tradeoffs
- Proficiency with Adams Car, CarSim, or equivalent multibody simulation tools
- Hands-on test experience: K&C rigs, proving ground testing, and data acquisition with VBOX or similar
- Ability to translate subjective driver feedback into objective tuning changes
- Working knowledge of steering systems (EPS calibration) and brake/chassis control integration
- Strong data analysis skills in MATLAB or Python for test data processing
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with active suspension or rear-wheel steering systems
- Knowledge of ESC/ABS calibration and vehicle stability control strategies
- Track or proving-ground driving experience with formal test driver training
- Familiarity with tire development and compound/construction effects on dynamics
