Staff Software Engineer

About the role

You will work across multiple software teams as a technical leader who sees the whole system when others see only their service. Staff engineers here own the architecture that spans team boundaries: shared platforms, cross-service contracts, and the integration points where distributed systems usually fail. You will drive alignment through well-written RFCs, rigorous design reviews, and the credibility that comes from having solved these problems before at scale. Success looks like teams shipping independently on foundations you designed, with fewer integration surprises, faster delivery, and systems that degrade gracefully instead of failing catastrophically.

What you will achieve

• Own cross-team technical initiatives such as platform builds, service mesh adoption, or data architecture overhauls from proposal through production
• Define API contracts and service boundaries that let teams build in parallel with minimal coordination overhead and integration risk
• Drive reliability improvements across the organization: better incident response, blameless postmortems, and systemic fixes that prevent repeat failures
• Lead technical design reviews across teams, catching architectural flaws early when they are still cheap and easy to fix
• Serve as the escalation point for the hardest production issues, resolving them with systematic analysis and calm, clear communication

What you will bring

Must-haves

• 8 to 12 years of software engineering with demonstrated experience leading technical work across multiple teams simultaneously
• Strong architecture skills: designing systems of many services with clear boundaries, contracts, and failure isolation between components
• Deep understanding of reliability engineering: SLOs, error budgets, chaos testing, and incident management practiced at scale
• Proven ability to influence without authority through excellent RFCs, incisive reviews, and honest technical persuasion
• Experience with data architecture: event schemas, data contracts, and consistency guarantees across service boundaries
• Track record of mentoring senior engineers and measurably raising the technical level of the teams you work with
• BS in Computer Science; MS preferred

Nice-to-haves

• Experience building internal developer platforms that measurably improve engineering velocity and satisfaction
• Familiarity with multi-region architecture and the consistency trade-offs it demands in practice
• Knowledge of cost engineering for cloud infrastructure operating at significant scale
• Background in SRE practices and production operations leadership during major incidents
