Staff Semiconductor Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. multi-team technical leadership, architecture reviews, process margin analysis, cross-product platforms, technical coaching, design reviews
About the role
A semiconductor manufacturer needs a staff engineer whose scope crosses multiple teams and product lines, the technical leader who keeps parallel efforts from diverging into incompatible solutions. You will own the technical architecture of process platforms, resolve conflicts between competing product needs with data rather than politics, and raise the engineering bar across the organization through reviews and standards. Teams seek your review before committing to big decisions because your track record says the review will catch what they missed. The staff engineer also maintains the cross-product design review standards that keep parallel teams from diverging into incompatible process and device assumptions.
What you will achieve
- Own process platform decisions that serve 3 or more product lines, balancing competing requirements without schedule slips or compromised margins for any single product.
- Drive margin and capability analyses that prevent 90 percent of late-stage integration surprises, surfacing risks while they are still cheap to fix.
- Lead architecture reviews for new technology introductions, catching design-process mismatches before tape-out or first silicon commits the company to expensive rework.
- Reduce duplicated effort across teams by 30 percent through shared platforms, libraries, and best-practice playbooks that teams actually adopt.
- Coach senior engineers on technical leadership, with at least 2 progressing to higher scope within 2 years under your mentorship.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- BS or MS in engineering or physics (advanced degree preferred) with 8 to 12 years of semiconductor experience across multiple roles or technologies.
- Proven technical leadership across multiple teams or product lines simultaneously, with outcomes that outlasted your direct involvement.
- Deep command of process integration with the ability to adjudicate trade-offs between performance, yield, and cost using data.
- History of creating reusable platforms, flows, or methodologies adopted beyond your own team by engineers who chose them voluntarily.
- Excellent written communication for architecture documents and technical standards that engineers reference for years.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority across engineering organizations, building alignment through technical credibility and a track record of being right on the hard calls.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience standardizing processes across multiple fabs or sites with different toolsets and cultures.
- Open-source or industry-standard contributions that show collaborative technical leadership.
- Advanced statistical methods or machine learning applied to process control at scale.
