The job description

Tech stack. SMR design codes, passive safety system analysis, modular construction methods, NRC licensing Part 50 or 52, thermal-hydraulic codes, factory fabrication processes, Python and MATLAB

About the role

You will engineer the next generation of nuclear power at an SMR vendor, where smaller, modular, factory-built reactors promise to change how the world deploys clean energy. The team designs passive safety systems, develops the licensing basis, and works with manufacturing on buildable designs. You will perform analyses, support first-of-a-kind engineering, and help prove these designs to regulators. This role matters because SMRs represent the industry's best path to rapid deployment, and your engineering determines whether these designs clear licensing and reach construction. You will also work with supply chain partners qualifying novel components for nuclear service, bridging design requirements and manufacturing reality. Your analyses will support the economic case for SMRs by demonstrating how passive safety reduces operational complexity and staffing needs. You will contribute to the standardization strategy that makes factory production economical, resisting site-specific customization that destroys the business model. Your licensing interactions will help establish the regulatory precedents that all subsequent SMR projects will follow.
