Server Rack Technician
The job description
Tech stack. Rack and stack procedures, rail kit installation, structured cable management, PDU installation and loading, labeling standards, torque specifications, server lift equipment, QA checklists and photo documentation
About the role
You will specialize in rack builds at a datacenter construction and fit-out company that delivers white space ready for hyperscale and enterprise customers. Your racks are the deliverable the customer inspects: servers mounted true and level, rails torqued to specification, power and data cabled cleanly with proper service loops, every cable labeled on both ends, every rack photographed and documented. You will build at volume during fast-track fit-out projects where the schedule is aggressive and quality cannot slip even as the pace intensifies. You will work on fast-track projects where entire halls are built out in weeks, and your pace and precision will determine whether handover dates hold. Your quality mindset will be contagious, raising the standard of every crew you work with. You will mentor new builders in the techniques that separate professional rack work from amateur hour: proper cable dressing, consistent labeling, and the discipline to verify every connection.
What you will achieve
- Build server racks exactly to engineering drawings with zero defects found in customer QA inspections across entire fit-out projects.
- Maintain build throughput meeting aggressive project schedules, hitting per-shift rack completion targets without quality shortcuts or rework spikes.
- Achieve cable labeling and as-built documentation accuracy above 99 percent, verified by independent audit before customer handover.
- Operate server lifts and material handling equipment safely with zero incidents across all your projects.
- Identify drawing errors, impractical details, or missing information during builds and flag them to engineering immediately, before they multiply across dozens of racks.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of rack build, datacenter fit-out, or similar structured installation work at volume.
- Ability to read rack elevation drawings, cable schedules, and power plans and build exactly to specification.
- Meticulous cable management, dressing, and labeling discipline that survives inspection.
- Physical capability: lifting, ladder work, and full shifts on concrete floors in active construction environments.
- Strong personal quality mindset: you inspect and correct your own work before anyone else sees it.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- Forklift or powered server-lift equipment certification.
- Experience with hot-aisle and cold-aisle containment system installation.
- Familiarity with seismic bracing and anchoring requirements for racks.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 construction safety training.
