Senior Software Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Distributed systems design, Python/Go/Java, microservices architecture, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL and caching layers, messaging systems, performance profiling, technical leadership, RFC authorship
About the role
You will be a technical anchor on a software team building systems that must scale, stay reliable, and evolve quickly without breaking existing behavior. Senior engineers here own significant technical scope: multi-service features, architectural decisions, and the mentoring that raises everyone around them. You are expected to see around corners, identifying scaling risks, reliability gaps, and design flaws before they become incidents or outages. Your code sets the standard, your reviews teach, and your judgment on trade-offs is trusted by the team and its leadership. This role is for engineers who have moved beyond writing good code to building good systems.
What you will achieve
- Own complex multi-service features from technical design through production rollout, delivering on schedule with clean, well-documented architecture
- Drive measurable reliability improvements: lower error budgets burned, faster incident resolution, and fewer repeat failures across your services
- Lead technical migrations such as framework upgrades, data model changes, or infrastructure moves with zero-downtime execution and rollback plans
- Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through design reviews, pairing sessions, and thoughtful feedback that accelerates their growth visibly
- Establish engineering standards for testing, observability, and deployment that the team adopts and that measurably reduce defects
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 5 to 8 years building production software with demonstrated ownership of complex systems and consequential architectural decisions
- Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts: consistency models, fault tolerance, retries, idempotency, and backpressure handling
- Experience designing microservices with clear boundaries, versioned contracts, and genuinely independent deployability
- Strong database skills: schema design at scale, query optimization, caching strategies, and understanding of replication and sharding
- Proven ability to debug production issues under pressure using logs, metrics, traces, and systematic reasoning
- Track record of technical leadership: driving design discussions, writing RFCs, and influencing architecture beyond your own code
- BS in Computer Science; MS preferred for depth in systems or algorithms
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with high-scale systems handling millions of requests per day or very large data volumes
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code using Terraform or Pulumi and cloud-native architecture patterns
- Knowledge of performance engineering: profiling, load testing, and capacity planning grounded in data
- Experience with security best practices: authentication design, secret management, and vulnerability remediation
