Semiconductor Product Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. datasheets, product characterization, customer returns (RMA), ATE data analysis, product qualification, yield-to-test correlation, bench lab
About the role
A fabless chip company needs a product engineer to own devices from first silicon through end of life, the technical owner customers call when something needs explaining. You will drive characterization, set datasheet limits with real statistical margin, qualify products to industry standards, and resolve customer returns with conclusions backed by data. You are the technical owner of the product in the market, and your judgment on what ships and what gets contained protects both revenue and reputation. The product engineer also drives the yield-to-test correlation analysis that traces field and sort failures back to fab excursions, closing the loop between manufacturing and design.
What you will achieve
- Ship characterization reports that set datasheet limits with 6-sigma guardbands, completed within 4 weeks of silicon arrival so marketing and sales can commit to customers with confidence backed by data and margin analysis.
- Drive product qualification to JEDEC standards, achieving first-pass qualification on 90 percent of products through thorough pre-qualification risk assessment and margin analysis.
- Reduce customer return rates by 50 percent through systematic RMA analysis, verified containment actions, and design or process feedback that eliminates root causes, tracked to closure in the corrective-action system with verified effectiveness.
- Own yield-to-test correlation so test-limit adjustments recover at least 1 point of yield per product generation without compromising outgoing quality or reliability.
- Cut new-product introduction cycle time by 20 percent with standardized bring-up checklists, debug playbooks, reusable characterization templates, and clear ownership for every NPI workstream.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- BS or MS in electrical engineering or computer engineering with strong analog or digital circuit fundamentals.
- 2 to 5 years in product engineering, test engineering, or applications engineering for semiconductor products with customer-facing exposure.
- Experience with bench characterization equipment including oscilloscopes, source meters, and network analyzers for device-level measurements.
- Ability to read schematics and understand device-level circuit operation well enough to debug unexpected behavior.
- Data analysis skills with ATE datalogs and statistical tools to separate real shifts from measurement noise.
- Strong customer-facing communication for RMA resolution and technical support, translating lab findings into clear customer updates.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience writing datasheets and application notes that customers actually use.
- Knowledge of quality systems and 8D corrective action processes for return investigations.
- Familiarity with automotive or industrial qualification standards such as AEC-Q100.
