Semiconductor Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. wafer fab processes, SPC, DOE, JMP, fab MES systems, process control charts, FMEA, 8D problem solving, inline metrology
About the role
A semiconductor manufacturer is expanding its device fabrication team, and this generalist role sits at the center of wafer production where no single specialist can cover every issue that arises on a shift. You will support multiple process areas as needed, from diffusion through back-end, and act as the bridge between process engineering, equipment, and integration teams so that problems get owners instead of bouncing between groups. Your work keeps line yield stable, protects the production schedule, and helps new products ramp to volume without the surprises that derail customer commitments.
What you will achieve
- Ship production lots across multiple process modules while holding line yield within 1 point of baseline targets, using daily yield and defect dashboards to catch deviations before they compound into scrap events.
- Drive root-cause investigations on process excursions from first signal to verified corrective action, closing cases within 5 business days on average and documenting the fix so the same failure mode never recurs.
- Own SPC control plans for your assigned processes, cutting out-of-control events by 25 percent year over year through tighter control limits, rational subgrouping, and automated alerting.
- Reduce scrap and hold-lot cycle time by partnering with equipment and integration teams to disposition material faster, targeting a 30 percent reduction in average hold duration without increasing quality risk.
- Deliver process documentation updates and work instructions that pass internal audit with zero findings, keeping every traveler, spec, and control plan current as processes evolve.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- BS or MS in electrical engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, or physics, with coursework or lab work in semiconductor device fabrication.
- 2 to 5 years working in a wafer fab, OSAT, or semiconductor process environment with direct responsibility for production lots.
- Working knowledge of SPC and DOE fundamentals, with hands-on JMP or Minitab use for control charts, capability studies, and designed experiments.
- Experience reading process flow travelers and executing controlled experiments in a production fab, including split-lot discipline and change control.
- Strong structured problem-solving skills using 8D, 5 Whys, or fishbone methods, applied to real excursion and yield investigations.
- Clear written and verbal communication for cross-shift and cross-team hand-offs, including concise status updates during production crises.
Nice-to-haves
- Fab MES experience with systems such as Camstar, Promis, or Applied FAB300, including lot tracking and recipe management.
- Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt certification with a completed improvement project.
- Familiarity with inline defect inspection tools and defect pareto analysis for yield support.
