RF/Microwave Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, ADS or Microwave Office, Smith chart design, antenna design and simulation (HFSS/CST), link budget analysis, RF PCB layout, EMI/EMC fundamentals, signal generators
About the role
You will design RF and microwave front ends at a company building wireless sensing products for industrial monitoring in refineries and manufacturing plants. Range, reliability, and coexistence in crowded, reflective spectrum decide whether the product works in a real plant or only in the lab. You will own the RF chain from antenna through matching networks, amplifiers, and filters, characterizing performance on the bench and in the field until link margins hold with room to spare across temperature and production variation.
What you will achieve
- Design and validate RF front ends meeting sensitivity, linearity, and selectivity targets, with measured performance matching simulation within 1 dB across production units and temperature.
- Deliver antenna designs or antenna selections with verified radiation patterns and efficiency, achieving required range in real industrial environments with multipath, metal structures, and interference present.
- Complete link budget analyses that set honest, defensible range claims, backed by field measurements in representative environments rather than optimistic free-space assumptions.
- Achieve FCC and CE radiated emissions and immunity compliance on wireless products, resolving failures with targeted filtering, shielding, grounding, and layout changes verified by retest.
- Build calibrated RF test setups and fixtures that make production testing repeatable across operators, cutting RF test time and false failures while catching real defects.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years designing RF or microwave circuits that shipped in products, not just prototypes.
- Fluency with Smith charts, S-parameters, matching network design, and amplifier stability analysis.
- Hands-on expertise with VNAs, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators, including proper calibration technique.
- Experience with RF PCB layout: controlled impedance, grounding and via stitching, component placement for isolation, and transmission line transitions.
- Understanding of receiver and transmitter architectures, noise figure, IP3, phase noise, and selectivity trade-offs.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with sub-GHz, 2.4 GHz, or 5 GHz ISM band product design including coexistence testing.
- Familiarity with antenna simulation tools such as HFSS or CST for custom antenna design.
- Background in regulatory certification for intentional radiators including modular approvals.
- Knowledge of LoRa, BLE, or WiFi protocol implications for RF design.
