Renewable Energy Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. PVsyst, WindPro, OpenWind, SAM (System Advisor Model), QGIS, Python, SCADA data platforms, AutoCAD Civil 3D
About the role
You will join a renewable energy developer that originates, designs, and builds utility-scale wind and solar projects across multiple markets. The engineering team owns resource assessment, plant layout, and energy yield analysis from greenfield prospecting through financial close. This role matters because your yield numbers set project valuations, your layouts determine constructability, and your technical judgment directly moves megawatts from pipeline to operating assets. You will also be the team's authority on evolving resource assessment standards, from IEC 61400-15 for wind to bifacial and albedo modeling practices for solar, and you will defend those methods in front of lenders who have seen every shortcut in the book. Beyond greenfield work, you will support M&A technical due diligence, re-rating operating assets when fresh met data or turbine upgrades change the yield picture. The role keeps you close to the commercial side as well, translating P50/P90 spreads and exceedance curves into language developers and finance teams can price. Over time you will build the team's reference library of site-specific loss assumptions, so each new assessment starts from validated priors instead of a blank page.
What you will achieve
- Deliver P50 and P90 energy yield assessments for 500+ MW of wind and solar pipeline per year, with uncertainty analysis that survives lender technical due diligence
- Optimize plant layouts that lift net capacity factor by 1 to 2 points through wake modeling, row spacing studies, and terrain-aware turbine placement, validating the gains against operational data from comparable sites in the fleet
- Cut resource assessment timelines by 25 percent by automating met mast and LiDAR data QA, MCP analysis, and reporting workflows in Python
- Own the technical inputs to interconnection applications and permit filings, keeping engineering deliverables ahead of development milestones, coordinating with development managers to sequence deliverables against PPA and financing deadlines
- Drive equipment selection decisions by benchmarking turbine and module/inverter options on LCOE, bankability, and site-specific performance
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of experience in wind or solar development, owner's engineering, or technical advisory roles
- Deep understanding of resource assessment: met data analysis, measure-correlate-predict methods, and long-term climate adjustments
- Proficiency with PVsyst for solar or WindPro/OpenWind for wind, including loss modeling and uncertainty quantification
- Working knowledge of GIS tools for site screening, constraints mapping, and layout development
- Familiarity with utility-scale project development stages from prospecting through NTP and COD
- Ability to communicate technical risk clearly to developers, lenders, and investors
- Strong Python or similar scripting skills for data processing and automation
Nice-to-haves
- Experience supporting lender technical due diligence or independent engineering reviews
- Knowledge of PPA structures and how yield assumptions flow into revenue models
- Understanding of interconnection study processes in major ISO/RTO markets
- Wind turbine or PV system commissioning exposure
- Experience with hybrid wind-plus-solar-plus-storage plants sharing a single interconnection
