R&D Electrical Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Rapid prototyping, novel circuit topologies, SPICE and multiphysics simulation, proof-of-concept builds, patent drafting support, technology evaluation, bench characterization, wide-bandgap devices
About the role
You will invent the electrical core of next-generation products at a research-driven company developing wireless power transfer for consumer and industrial devices. Your work starts before there is a product or a specification: exploring new topologies, proving concepts on the bench, and de-risking the physics so product teams can build on solid, characterized ground. You will explore widely, measure honestly, publish internally, file patents, and hand off proven technology that becomes the company's lasting competitive edge rather than a lab curiosity.
What you will achieve
- Demonstrate at least one breakthrough prototype per year that advances efficiency, power density, or cost beyond the current state of the art, with calibrated measured data proving the advance against benchmarks.
- De-risk new topologies through simulation and bench validation, delivering design rules, characterized reference implementations, and known limitation documents that product teams adopt with confidence.
- File patent applications capturing the novel aspects of your work, strengthening the company's IP position in strategically important areas.
- Evaluate emerging components and materials (wide-bandgap devices, advanced magnetics, novel capacitors) and recommend adoption or rejection with quantified benefit analysis.
- Bridge research and product by supporting the first product integration of your technology through EVT, ensuring the handoff preserves the performance you demonstrated.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 4 to 7 years of experience with a strong record of novel electrical design, ideally including R&D or advanced development roles with shipped outcomes.
- Deep theoretical grounding in electromagnetics, circuit theory, and at least one specialty such as power electronics, RF, or magnetics.
- Demonstrated ability to take an idea from whiteboard to working bench prototype independently and quickly, including building your own test setups.
- Comfort with ambiguity: defining your own experiments, metrics, and success criteria when no specification exists.
- Strong documentation habits so research results, negative results included, transfer cleanly to product teams.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; MS or PhD valued.
Nice-to-haves
- Patents filed or peer-reviewed papers published in your specialty area.
- Experience with wireless power, resonant converters, or high-frequency magnetics design.
- Familiarity with multiphysics simulation coupling electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical domains.
- Experience presenting research to non-specialist executives and customers.
