R&D Analog Design Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Analog research, novel circuit topologies, Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, test chip design and measurement, emerging devices, patent development, Python, statistical analysis
About the role
You will explore the future of analog circuits at a semiconductor company, researching novel topologies, emerging devices, and unconventional techniques years ahead of productization in an environment that values both creativity and rigor. R&D analog designers prototype ideas that product teams consider too risky: new converter architectures, subthreshold computing circuits, circuits in emerging technologies, and bio-inspired approaches. You will design test chips, measure results, publish and patent the best work, and transfer proven concepts into product development.
What you will achieve
- Invent and prototype novel analog circuit topologies addressing fundamental limitations in noise, power, linearity, or bandwidth, demonstrating measurable advantages over state of the art.
- Design research test chips that isolate and characterize new concepts cleanly, with the measurement infrastructure to prove performance claims rigorously and distinguish genuine advances from artifacts.
- Explore analog design in emerging technologies such as advanced nodes, novel devices, or heterogeneous integration, mapping their opportunities and limitations.
- Quantify research results honestly through silicon measurement, distinguishing genuine breakthroughs from incremental improvements or measurement artifacts.
- Publish selected work in leading venues and file patents protecting the company's intellectual property in next-generation analog circuits.
- Transfer proven concepts to product design teams with thorough documentation, design guides, reference implementations, and hands-on support that ensures successful adoption into shipping programs.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 5 to 8 years of experience in analog IC design with a record of innovative contributions and silicon results.
- Exceptional circuit intuition and creativity in inventing new topologies and techniques.
- Deep theoretical grounding in analog design fundamentals, noise theory, and feedback systems.
- Experience designing and measuring test chips for research characterization.
- Intellectual honesty in evaluating research results, including recognizing when ideas do not work.
- Strong technical writing for publications, patents, and technology transfer documentation that convinces skeptical expert reviewers.
- Ability to work with long time horizons and open-ended goals while delivering concrete, measurable progress.
Nice-to-haves
- PhD in analog or mixed-signal circuit design with published research.
- Experience transferring research concepts into commercial products.
- Familiarity with emerging device technologies such as TFETs, FeFETs, or photonic integration.
- Active engagement with the circuits research community through conferences or collaborations.
