The job description
Tech stack. Analog architecture, advanced CMOS design, design methodology, Cadence Virtuoso, system-level signal chain design, technical leadership, IP strategy
About the role
You will serve as a principal analog designer at a semiconductor company, the technical authority for analog design across programs and teams. Principal analog designers define how the organization does analog: the design methodologies, the modeling standards, the review processes, and the IP reuse strategies that determine whether products meet their specifications on schedule. Your judgment shapes the analog content of products worth hundreds of millions in revenue, and your mentorship builds the designers who will carry the discipline forward.
What you will achieve
- Set the analog design methodology and quality standards across the organization, including review processes, simulation requirements, modeling standards, and tapeout checklists every program follows.
- Lead architecture and design reviews for the most critical analog blocks and signal chains, catching fundamental problems early when they are inexpensive to fix.
- Define analog IP strategy including what gets built as reusable IP, the specification and documentation standards for it, and the verification requirements that make reuse trustworthy.
- Resolve the organization's most difficult analog challenges, from seemingly impossible specification combinations to systemic yield or reliability issues, through deep technical insight.
- Mentor senior and staff designers deliberately, developing the next generation of analog technical leaders and multiplying your impact across the organization.
- Advise executive leadership on analog technology bets, process node selection for analog content, and build-versus-buy decisions with honest, experience-grounded assessments.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 12 or more years of experience in analog IC design with multiple generations of successful, high-volume products.
- Demonstrated ability to set technical direction for analog organizations, with methodology and standards adopted across programs.
- Mastery spanning circuit design, layout, device physics, packaging effects, system-level signal chains, and silicon debug.
- Track record of first-silicon success on demanding analog specifications across different product generations.
- Exceptional design review skills: you identify fundamental flaws others miss and communicate them constructively.
- Strong communication and influence skills spanning designers, system architects, executives, and customers.
- A record of developing analog designers into recognized technical leaders.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience across diverse analog domains such as data converters, power management, RF, and sensors.
- Industry recognition through JSSC publications, ISSCC presentations, or patents.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies affecting analog design such as advanced packaging or novel devices.
