Precision IC Design Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Bandgap references, precision op-amps, chopper stabilization, auto-zero, trimming and calibration, low-offset design, Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre
About the role
You will join a precision analog company designing references, amplifiers, and data-acquisition front ends where microvolts matter. The team serves instrumentation, medical, and industrial markets whose systems live or die on measurement accuracy. This role matters because precision is the product: your offset, drift, and noise numbers are printed on the datasheet front page, and customers design their systems around them. Precision specs improve slowly and expensively, so the team that compounds small gains wins over time. Customers build decade-long product lines on these parts, so stability matters as much as raw specs.
What you will achieve
- Ship references and amplifiers with best-in-class offset, drift, and noise, holding datasheet limits across temperature and lifetime
- Design chopper-stabilized and auto-zeroed circuits that push offset and 1/f noise below what device physics would otherwise allow
- Cut temperature drift through curvature correction and compensation techniques validated across -40C to 125C characterization
- Deliver trimming and calibration schemes that recover precision lost to process variation, lifting production yield on tight specs
- Drive long-term stability: aging-aware design and burn-in correlation that keep parts in spec for their full rated lifetime
- Own precision characterization in the lab, with measurement setups whose own noise and drift sit well below the device under test
- Maintain a drift and aging database across product generations that informs design margins for future parts
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2-5 years designing precision analog circuits with shipped products in instrumentation, medical, or industrial markets
- Deep understanding of precision error sources: offset, drift, 1/f noise, CMRR, PSRR, and thermoelectric effects
- Design experience with bandgap references, precision op-amps, or instrumentation amplifiers
- Fluency in chopping, auto-zero, and correlated double sampling techniques and their artifact tradeoffs (ripple, charge injection)
- Proficiency in Cadence Virtuoso and Spectre, including noise, mismatch, and temperature-sweep analyses
- Meticulous lab technique: low-noise measurement, thermal settling, and shielding for microvolt-level characterization
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering with an analog or precision circuits focus
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with 24-bit or higher resolution signal chains and their error budgeting
- Familiarity with hermetic packaging or stress effects on precision performance
- Prior work on precision DACs or ADCs where INL/DNL dominate the design
