PCB Design Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, high-density routing, length tuning, differential pair routing, library and footprint management, Gerber generation, 3D MCAD collaboration, DFM checking
About the role
You will turn schematics into physical circuit boards: the placement, routing, and manufacturing outputs that make designs real and buildable. PCB design engineers are the craftspeople of the hardware world, where a well-routed board is both an engineering achievement and a point of professional pride. You will work from engineers' constraints to produce layouts that meet signal integrity requirements, build cleanly in the factory, and look like someone genuinely cared about the result. Great layout engineers are force multipliers: their work determines build yield, debug speed, and EMC performance as much as any schematic decision.
What you will achieve
- Deliver production-ready PCB layouts from schematics and constraint sets, meeting all electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing requirements
- Route high-density designs with fine-pitch BGAs and HDI features using clean fanout strategies, controlled impedance, and proper return path management
- Achieve first-pass fabrication and assembly success through rigorous DFM checks, footprint verification, and peer review before every release
- Maintain component libraries with verified footprints, 3D models, and parametric data that the entire design team trusts implicitly
- Generate complete manufacturing packages including Gerbers, ODB++, assembly drawings, and pick-and-place files that build correctly without clarification
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of professional PCB layout experience with boards that successfully went to volume production
- Proficiency in Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or equivalent professional layout tools including advanced constraint management
- Experience routing high-density designs: BGA fanout, differential pairs, length matching, and controlled impedance implementation
- Knowledge of DFM principles: annular ring requirements, solder mask design, panelization strategy, and assembly considerations
- Discipline for library management: creating and verifying footprints against datasheets with meticulous attention to detail
- Understanding of basic signal integrity concepts sufficient to implement engineers' constraints correctly in layout
- Technical degree or equivalent professional experience with a layout portfolio
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with rigid-flex design: bend area rules, stiffeners, and layer transitions between rigid and flex regions
- Familiarity with high-speed design rules: via stub management, backdrilling, and return path discontinuity avoidance
- Knowledge of IPC CID or CID+ certification standards for PCB design
- Experience with 3D mechanical integration: MCAD/ECAD collaboration workflows and collision checking
