NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. LMS Test.Lab, HEAD acoustics, B&K analyzers, VA One (SEA), Nastran/Actran, anechoic chamber testing, modal analysis rigs
About the role
You will join the NVH team of an automaker responsible for the sounds and sensations customers perceive as quality: or reject as cheap. The team owns noise and vibration targets from concept simulation through production verification. This role matters because NVH is where engineering meets emotion: a quiet cabin sells luxury, an annoying whine kills reviews, and your measurements and countermeasures decide which one the customer experiences. You will chase the noises and vibrations customers notice in the first thirty seconds of a test drive, using transfer-path analysis to find which source and which path dominates. Your countermeasures will range from tuned mass dampers to active noise control, each validated against jury evaluations that correlate with objective metrics. You will also set component-level NVH targets cascaded from vehicle goals, so suppliers deliver quiet parts instead of the vehicle team discovering problems at integration.
What you will achieve
- Deliver vehicle NVH performance meeting program targets: interior noise, vibration dose, and sound quality metrics validated in production-intent builds
- Cut late-stage NVH issues by 40 percent through CAE-led design: SEA, FEA, and BEM predictions guiding countermeasures before hardware
- Own root-cause analysis of noise paths: transfer path analysis separating airborne, structure-borne, and powertrain contributions
- Drive countermeasure development: damping treatments, isolation mounts, and acoustic packages optimized for cost per dB
- Ship EV-specific NVH solutions addressing the new soundscape: e-drive whine, inverter switching noise, and road noise unmasked by silent powertrains
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of experience in automotive NVH engineering or adjacent acoustics/vibration roles
- Strong understanding of acoustics and vibration fundamentals: modal analysis, transfer functions, and psychoacoustics basics
- Proficiency with LMS Test.Lab or equivalent for measurement, order tracking, and transfer path analysis
- Hands-on test experience: microphones, accelerometers, impact hammers, and shaker testing
- Working knowledge of CAE methods for NVH: SEA (VA One), acoustic BEM/FEM, and structural FEA
- Ability to translate subjective jury evaluations into objective engineering targets
- Structured problem solving: isolating sources, quantifying paths, and validating fixes
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with EV NVH challenges: high-frequency whine and active sound design
- Knowledge of aeroacoustics: wind tunnel testing and mirror/seal noise
- Familiarity with active noise cancellation systems
- Background in powertrain or e-drive NVH specifically
