Junior Software Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Python or JavaScript, Git workflows, basic SQL, unit testing, REST API consumption, debugging fundamentals, code review participation, documentation
About the role
You will start your software career on a team that ships to production every week, learning professional engineering from people who do it well. Junior engineers here do real work from the first month: bug fixes, small features, test coverage, and tooling improvements, all with close mentorship and careful review. You will be expected to ask questions constantly, read a lot of code, and develop the habits that separate professionals from students: testing your work, writing clearly, and owning your mistakes. Engineers who learn fast, communicate honestly, and care about craft advance quickly here.
What you will achieve
- Ship your first production features within the first two months, progressing from well-scoped bug fixes to independently owned small features
- Build strong fundamentals fast: clean code, thoughtful tests, careful debugging, and pull requests reviewers trust with minimal corrections
- Contribute meaningfully to team velocity through documentation improvements, test coverage additions, and developer tooling fixes
- Develop production awareness by participating in on-call shadows, reading incident postmortems, and understanding how your code behaves live
- Earn increasing scope by demonstrating reliability: hitting commitments, asking for help early, and following through completely
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 0 to 2 years of experience; strong internships, co-ops, bootcamp projects, or personal projects with real shipped code all count
- Solid programming fundamentals: comfort with at least one language, basic data structures, and the ability to read unfamiliar code
- Understanding of Git workflows: branching, pull requests, merge conflict resolution, and clear commit messages
- Basic SQL knowledge: writing queries, understanding joins, and designing simple schemas
- Genuine enthusiasm for software engineering shown through projects, contributions, or deep curiosity about how systems work
- Strong communication: asking clear questions, writing readable code comments, and giving honest status updates
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent training; self-taught engineers with strong portfolios are welcome
Nice-to-haves
- Personal projects deployed to production: web apps, bots, tools, or games with real users
- Familiarity with a modern web framework such as React, Django, or Express
- Experience with testing frameworks and the habit of writing tests for your own code
- Contributions to open-source projects, even small documentation or bug-fix contributions
