Junior Datacenter Technician
The job description
Tech stack. Basic hardware handling and identification, ticketing systems, ESD procedures, asset tagging and moves, cable labeling, Linux fundamentals, safety training, structured task checklists
About the role
You will start your infrastructure career as a junior technician at a regional datacenter operator that invests in growing its own talent. This is a learning role with real responsibility and a clear progression path: you will handle structured tasks like asset moves, cable labeling, parts staging, and physical audits while senior technicians teach you diagnostics, datacenter discipline, and customer service. Your growth will be measured in skills certified, tasks you can own independently, and the trust the team places in your work. You will rotate through different task areas to build broad fundamentals before specializing, and your mentors will invest in your growth because they see your effort. Your career in infrastructure starts here.
What you will achieve
- Complete the structured onboarding program within 90 days, demonstrating competence in ESD practice, safety procedures, ticketing discipline, and basic hardware tasks through observed assessments.
- Take ownership of routine tasks (asset audits, cable labeling, parts staging, decommission assists) with accuracy above 98 percent and minimal rework.
- Progress to assisted break/fix work within six months, correctly diagnosing common hardware faults under supervision and documenting findings clearly.
- Build Linux and hardware fundamentals through the team's training plan, passing internal competency checks on schedule.
- Earn the trust to work semi-independently on defined tasks by the end of your first year, with senior technicians confident in your judgment on routine work.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 0 to 2 years of experience, including IT support, help desk, PC building or repair, or relevant coursework and labs.
- Genuine interest in infrastructure operations and willingness to learn datacenter discipline deeply, including shift work realities.
- Basic computer hardware knowledge: components, connectors, form factors, and safe handling practices.
- Reliability and punctuality: shift operations depend on every person showing up ready and on time, every time.
- Coachability and honest communication about what you know, what you do not know, and when you need help.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- CompTIA A+ certification or active progress toward it.
- Home lab or personal projects with servers, networking gear, or Raspberry Pi clusters.
- Any customer service experience in technical or high-expectation settings.
- Basic familiarity with Linux command line from coursework or self-study.
