Infotainment Systems Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Android Automotive OS, QNX, C++/Java/Kotlin, MOST/Ethernet AVB, audio DSP tools, HMI design tools, vehicle network gateways
About the role
You will join the infotainment team of an automaker building the cockpit experience: displays, audio, navigation, voice, and smartphone integration that customers interact with on every drive. The team owns infotainment hardware and software integration from concept through production. This role matters because the cockpit is the showroom battleground, and your systems engineering determines whether the experience feels seamless and premium or laggy and frustrating. You will integrate head-unit hardware, operating systems, and vehicle middleware into a cockpit experience that boots fast, never stutters, and survives a decade of software updates. Your performance budgets will cover cold-boot time, touch latency, and voice response, each measured on production-intent hardware rather than developer boards. You will also own the smartphone projection and connectivity stack, ensuring CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth behave flawlessly across hundreds of phone models. You will also validate power and thermal behavior so the head unit never throttles during summer traffic jams.
What you will achieve
- Deliver infotainment systems with boot times under 10 seconds, touch latency under 50 ms, and crash-free sessions above 99.5 percent
- Integrate audio, navigation, voice assistant, and phone projection (CarPlay/Android Auto) with feature-complete certification on first submission
- Own system-level requirements, interface definitions, and integration test plans across head unit, displays, amplifiers, and antennas
- Cut issue escape rate by 40 percent through automated HMI testing, stress testing, and fleet telemetry monitoring
- Drive OTA-delivered infotainment updates adding features post-sale, tracked through customer satisfaction scores
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of experience in automotive infotainment, cockpit electronics, or consumer electronics systems engineering
- Strong understanding of infotainment architectures: SoCs, displays, audio chains, tuners, and connectivity modules
- Familiarity with Android Automotive OS or QNX-based cockpit platforms
- Working knowledge of automotive audio/video networking: MOST, Ethernet AVB/TSN, and A2B
- Experience with system integration testing: HIL benches, network simulation, and vehicle-level validation
- Understanding of HMI principles and usability testing for driver distraction compliance
- Structured defect triage across software, hardware, and supplier boundaries
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with voice assistant integration or conversational AI in vehicles
- Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity requirements for connected head units
- Familiarity with digital cockpit consolidation: one SoC driving cluster, HUD, and center display
- Exposure to V2X or connected navigation services
