Electrical Test Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Test plan development, automated test equipment, Python and LabVIEW, oscilloscopes and source-measure units, test fixture design, statistical analysis, environmental chambers, power analyzers
About the role
You will own electrical validation at a company manufacturing motor drives for HVAC and pumping applications sold worldwide. Your test programs are the last line of defense before product ships, and your data is what engineering, quality, and management trust when they sign the release. You will design test strategies from requirements and risk, build automated rigs that run around the clock, execute validation campaigns, and turn raw measurements into clear pass-or-fail verdicts with the statistical evidence to back every decision. You will design test fixtures and automated test sequences that catch real defects while keeping test time and cost under control. Your test data will feed back into design and manufacturing, closing the loop so the same failure mode never escapes twice.
What you will achieve
- Develop comprehensive test plans covering functional, parametric, environmental, and endurance cases for each new drive platform, with traceability from every test back to a requirement or identified risk.
- Build automated test stations using Python-driven instruments that run full validation suites overnight with minimal operator involvement and produce morning reports with pass rates and anomalies flagged.
- Cut test cycle time per product by 30 percent or more through fixture standardization, parallel test execution, and elimination of redundant manual steps.
- Catch design weaknesses before release by designing tests that stress worst-case corners (low line, high ambient, aged components), not just nominal conditions that always pass.
- Deliver clear, statistically grounded test reports with confidence intervals and sample-size rationale that give engineering the confidence to sign off on production release.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of electrical test or validation engineering experience on hardware products.
- Ability to design test plans from product requirements, standards, and structured risk analysis.
- Proficiency with Python or LabVIEW for instrument automation, data acquisition, and analysis.
- Strong bench skills and understanding of measurement accuracy, grounding, shielding, and noise in test setups.
- Experience with environmental testing: temperature, humidity, vibration, and combined environments.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with HALT/HASS or accelerated life testing methods and their interpretation.
- Familiarity with motor drive topologies, control methods, and their characteristic failure modes.
- Background in statistical methods: design of experiments, capability analysis, and Weibull plotting.
- Knowledge of EMC testing methods and debugging emissions failures.
