Electrical Project Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Project scheduling, vendor and subcontractor management, AutoCAD Electrical, commissioning procedures, budget tracking, technical specifications, site acceptance testing, NEC application
About the role
You will run electrical workstreams on capital projects at a company that designs and builds manufacturing facilities for the food and beverage industry. You will own the electrical scope from bid review through commissioning: coordinating designers, managing electrical contractors across trades, tracking budget and schedule weekly, and standing on the site at startup making sure everything energizes correctly the first time. Your projects succeed when the plant powers up on the promised date and the client signs the acceptance certificate without reservations. You will own the electrical scope of capital projects from budget estimate through commissioning, managing contractors, procurement, and schedule with equal attention. You will review submittals and shop drawings critically, catching errors in the office where they are cheap instead of in the field where they are expensive. Your coordination across disciplines keeps electrical work off the critical path.
What you will achieve
- Deliver electrical scopes on industrial facility projects on schedule and within budget, managing contractors across design, installation, and commissioning phases with weekly progress accountability.
- Produce clear technical specifications and bid packages that attract competitive quotes, define scope precisely, and prevent costly disputes during construction.
- Drive factory acceptance and site acceptance testing for electrical systems, closing every punch-list item before handover and achieving client sign-off on schedule.
- Resolve field conflicts between electrical installation and other trades within days, protecting the critical path from cascading delays.
- Build lasting vendor relationships through fair dealing and clear expectations, improving pricing, lead times, and quality on future projects.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of experience on electrical scopes of industrial or commercial construction projects.
- Ability to read, coordinate, and build from electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and panel schedules.
- Experience managing contractors: scoping work, tracking progress against schedule, and holding quality standards in the field.
- Working knowledge of the NEC and how it applies to industrial installations, including grounding and hazardous locations.
- Strong organization and communication across owners, contractors, inspectors, and internal teams.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with design-build or EPC project delivery models from pursuit through closeout.
- Familiarity with medium-voltage distribution or large motor and MCC installations.
- PMP certification or formal project management training.
- Knowledge of arc-flash study requirements and labeling for new installations.
