Electrical Design Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Cadence Allegro or Altium Designer, schematic capture, PCB layout, SPICE, impedance-controlled routing, DFM and DFA analysis, component engineering, ECAD library management, signal integrity basics
About the role
You will own schematic capture and PCB layout for a company developing precision measurement instruments used in laboratories and production lines worldwide. Your boards carry sensitive analog signals next to switching power and digital logic, so layout discipline is the product: grounding, partitioning, and routing decide whether the instrument meets its noise specification. You will take system requirements and turn them into manufacturable designs that pass EMC testing the first time and yield reliably at the contract manufacturer for years.
What you will achieve
- Deliver complete schematic and layout packages for mixed-signal boards up to 8 layers, meeting signal integrity and EMC targets verified by simulation before any fabrication order is placed.
- Achieve first-pass EMC compliance on the majority of designs through disciplined grounding, partitioning, filtering, and controlled-impedance routing, documented in pre-compliance test reports.
- Reduce layout cycle time on repeat designs by building and reusing proven layout blocks for power, clocking, and interface circuits with characterized performance.
- Drive DFM scores above the contract manufacturer's acceptance threshold on every release, eliminating fabrication holds and assembly defects traceable to layout choices.
- Own the ECAD library for your product area, keeping footprints, schematic symbols, and 3D models accurate so no board spin is ever lost to a library error.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years focused on schematic capture and PCB layout for production hardware with real release responsibility.
- Expert-level skill with a major ECAD tool, including constraint-driven layout, differential pair routing, and length tuning.
- Working knowledge of stackup design, grounding strategy, and return current paths for mixed-signal boards.
- Experience designing for EMC: filtering topologies, shielding, via stitching, and moated partitions for sensitive circuits.
- Understanding of DFM and DFA: annular rings, solder mask clearances, panelization, and test point access for bed-of-nails or flying probe.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with high-speed digital interfaces such as USB, Ethernet, or DDR memory.
- Familiarity with rigid-flex or HDI board technologies and their layout constraints.
- Background in precision analog layout for low-noise measurement front ends.
- Knowledge of IPC standards for design and acceptability.
