Datacenter Maintenance Technician
The job description
Tech stack. Preventive maintenance programs, CMMS work order systems, general mechanical and electrical repair, plumbing basics, building envelope maintenance, lighting systems, vendor coordination, safety procedures and PPE
About the role
You will maintain the building and non-critical systems at a colocation datacenter campus: roofs, plumbing, lighting, doors, and general infrastructure that keep the facility functional and presentable around the critical systems. Your preventive maintenance prevents the small failures that become big disruptions and embarrassing customer experiences. You will work through CMMS work orders with discipline, handle repairs across multiple trades, coordinate vendors effectively, and keep a large campus in excellent condition year-round. You will be the person everyone calls when something breaks that nobody else owns, and your broad trade skills will make you indispensable to the campus. Your preventive maintenance program will be the reason major failures are rare rather than routine. You will track maintenance costs and identify where proactive spending prevents expensive reactive repairs, building the business case for doing things right. Your vendor relationships will ensure quality work at fair prices, because you will know the difference.
What you will achieve
- Complete preventive maintenance tasks on schedule with 100 percent CMMS compliance and zero overdue safety-related items.
- Resolve corrective work orders within SLA with first-visit completion above 85 percent, arriving with the right parts and tools.
- Reduce reactive maintenance volume year over year by identifying root causes during preventive rounds and fixing them permanently.
- Maintain building systems (lighting, plumbing, doors, dock equipment, roofing) in audit-ready condition for customer tours and inspections.
- Coordinate vendor work safely and effectively: clear scopes, supervised access, verified quality, and signed completion before payment approval.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of facilities or building maintenance experience across mechanical, electrical, and general trades.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair across disciplines: basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC components, door hardware, and carpentry.
- Experience with CMMS work order systems, preventive maintenance scheduling, and parts inventory basics.
- Strong safety awareness: proper PPE selection, ladder safety, and hot work awareness.
- Self-direction and time management across a large campus with minimal supervision.
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school background valued.
Nice-to-haves
- HVAC or electrical trade certification or apprenticeship completion.
- Experience in mission-critical, healthcare, or other 24/7 facility environments.
- Familiarity with building automation system basics for lighting and HVAC.
- Knowledge of roofing systems and building envelope maintenance.
