Datacenter Installation Technician
The job description
Tech stack. New construction fit-out, containment system installation, busway and power whip installation, cable tray and ladder rack, QA punch lists, blueprint and BIM reading, commissioning support, torque and anchoring specs
About the role
You will build out new datacenter white space at a company delivering turnkey datacenter halls for cloud and enterprise customers on aggressive schedules. Your work turns an empty concrete shell into revenue-generating capacity: containment systems, power distribution, cable infrastructure, and racks installed to exacting standards and verified before handover. You will work from construction drawings and BIM models on fast-track projects where the pace is intense, the coordination with other trades is constant, and quality cannot slip even as deadlines compress. You will see empty shells become revenue-generating capacity in months, and your craftsmanship will be part of facilities that operate for decades. Your field experience will make you valuable to commissioning teams who need installers that understand the systems they are building. You will also train apprentices in the trade, passing on the standards that define professional datacenter construction.
What you will achieve
- Complete fit-out scopes on schedule for halls up to 5 megawatts, meeting every milestone in the construction program without quality concessions.
- Install containment, busway, cable tray, grounding, and racks to drawings and specifications with zero major defects found in commissioning inspections.
- Maintain exemplary safety performance with zero recordable incidents across your work areas through disciplined adherence to site safety plans.
- Close punch-list items within 48 hours of identification, protecting handover dates and customer confidence.
- Coordinate effectively with electrical, mechanical, and general trades to resolve clashes and sequencing conflicts in the field without delaying the critical path.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of datacenter construction, fit-out, or similar structured installation work.
- Ability to read and build from construction drawings, specifications, and BIM model views.
- Experience with datacenter-specific systems: hot/cold aisle containment, busway power distribution, overhead cable tray and ladder rack.
- Strong safety record and working knowledge of construction site safety practices including fall protection and electrical awareness.
- Ability to maintain installation quality under genuine schedule pressure.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- OSHA 30 construction safety certification.
- Experience supporting commissioning activities (levels 1 through 3) and witnessing.
- Familiarity with BIM 360 or similar field coordination tools.
- Background in electrical apprenticeship or structured trade training.
