Datacenter Deployment Technician
The job description
Tech stack. Large-scale deployment projects, rack and stack at volume, OS imaging and provisioning workflows, network provisioning coordination, QA and acceptance testing, deployment runbooks, logistics coordination, punch-list management
About the role
You will deploy new datacenter capacity at a cloud provider adding thousands of servers per quarter to meet customer demand growth. Your work turns delivered hardware into live, provisioned capacity: racking and cabling to standard, coordinating imaging and network provisioning, executing QA gates, and handing over clean capacity to operations. You will work at deployment-project pace where the schedule is relentless, the QA bar is absolute, and the difference between on-time and late capacity is measured in customer revenue. You will coordinate across logistics, networking, and systems teams daily, resolving dependencies before they become blockers. You will track deployment progress daily with accurate reporting that lets program managers see real status, not optimistic guesses. Your punch-list discipline will ensure no deployment is declared complete until it truly is. You will also support capacity planning with feedback on realistic deployment rates based on actual project data.
What you will achieve
- Deploy servers at project pace, hitting per-shift racking, cabling, and provisioning throughput targets while passing every QA gate on first inspection.
- Achieve zero-defect deployments across your work: correct firmware, correct configuration, correct labeling, and clean cable plant verified by independent QA before handover.
- Coordinate smoothly with logistics (kit completeness), networking (port provisioning), and systems teams (imaging and validation), resolving dependencies proactively instead of waiting.
- Close deployment punch-list items within 24 hours so capacity moves to production acceptance on schedule without lingering defects.
- Document as-built configurations accurately so operations teams inherit deployments they can support without discovery work.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of datacenter deployment, rack build, or infrastructure rollout experience at meaningful scale.
- Ability to work fast and accurately to aggressive project schedules without quality degradation.
- Understanding of the deployment pipeline: receiving, racking, cabling, power-up, imaging, provisioning, and acceptance.
- Basic Linux and networking knowledge sufficient to verify provisioning success and to troubleshoot deployment-stage failures.
- Strong coordination skills across multiple teams and vendors with competing priorities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with automated provisioning systems (PXE boot, imaging servers, orchestration tools).
- Familiarity with deployment project management tools and reporting.
- Knowledge of acceptance testing methodologies and commissioning basics.
- Background in high-volume hyperscale deployment programs.
