About the role

You will design the control algorithms at a company building precision motion platforms for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Nanometer-level positioning under thermal drift and floor vibration is the core challenge, and your controllers are what make the mechanics perform beyond what the hardware alone could achieve. You will model the plant, simulate candidate controllers, implement them on real-time hardware, and tune on the actual machine until measured performance meets specifications that customers verify independently. You will design controllers using classical and modern techniques, validating stability margins through analysis and hardware-in-the-loop testing before deployment. Your systems will operate reliably across the full range of plant variations, disturbances, and sensor noise found in production environments.

What you will achieve

Deliver tuned servo control loops meeting settling time, tracking error, and disturbance rejection specifications, validated on hardware across the full operating envelope and temperature range.
Build high-fidelity plant models from system identification measurements, enabling simulation predictions that match hardware frequency responses within 10 percent before any tuning begins.
Cut commissioning time per machine significantly by developing automated tuning and calibration procedures that field engineers can run reliably without controls expertise.
Implement robust disturbance rejection for floor vibration and thermal drift, measurably improving throughput and overlay performance on customer tools.
Document control architectures, tuning procedures, and troubleshooting guides clearly enough that manufacturing and service teams can support the product without your direct involvement.

What you will bring

Must-haves

2 to 5 years designing and tuning control systems on real hardware, not only in simulation.
Strong grasp of classical control (PID, lead-lag, loop shaping) and frequency-domain analysis including Nyquist and Bode methods.
Experience with MATLAB/Simulink for modeling, simulation, and algorithm prototyping or code generation.
Ability to implement control algorithms in embedded C or a real-time environment with attention to timing and numerical issues.
Understanding of sensors and actuators: encoders, current sensing, motor drives, amplifiers, and their real-world non-idealities.
BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with controls focus.

Nice-to-haves

Experience with field-oriented motor control or precision motion stages.
Familiarity with vibration isolation or active damping techniques.
Background in semiconductor capital equipment or similarly demanding precision applications.
Knowledge of adaptive or robust control methods for varying plant dynamics.
