Cloud Software Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. AWS or GCP core services, Terraform, Kubernetes, CI/CD automation, cloud networking, IAM and security basics, cost optimization, observability, GitOps, disaster recovery, backup strategies
About the role
You will build and operate the cloud infrastructure that every product team depends on, working at the intersection of software engineering and systems operations. Cloud engineers here treat infrastructure as software: versioned, tested, peer-reviewed, and deployed through pipelines like any other code. You will design landing zones, build deployment platforms, automate everything worth automating, and keep the cloud bill proportional to growth. Your customers are the engineers shipping product, and your success is measured in their velocity, the platform's reliability, and costs that stay under control as the company scales. You will also build the cost-attribution dashboards that show every team what it spends, since cloud bills grow silently and engineers optimize what they can see.
What you will achieve
- Build infrastructure as code for core cloud environments using Terraform, with modular, tested, reusable configurations that product teams adopt confidently
- Deliver deployment platforms including Kubernetes clusters and CI/CD pipelines that let product teams ship independently, safely, and quickly
- Reduce cloud costs measurably through rightsizing, autoscaling policies, spot instance usage, and storage lifecycle management backed by billing data
- Improve platform reliability with multi-AZ design, backup strategies, disaster recovery testing, and clear operational runbooks for every critical system
- Cut developer toil through self-service tooling: environment provisioning, secret management, and database setup without ticket queues or waiting
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years working with public cloud platforms (AWS preferred, GCP acceptable) supporting production workloads
- Strong infrastructure-as-code skills with Terraform: module design, remote state management, and safe change workflows with plan reviews
- Experience with Kubernetes: cluster operations, workload deployment, networking configuration, and production troubleshooting
- Understanding of cloud networking fundamentals: VPCs, subnets, routing tables, load balancers, and DNS
- Familiarity with IAM, security groups, and least-privilege access design applied consistently across cloud resources
- Scripting and automation skills in Python or Bash for operational tooling, glue code, and runbook automation
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Nice-to-haves
- Cloud certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect or CKA demonstrating structured, validated knowledge
- Experience with platform engineering: internal developer portals, golden paths, and paved-road architectures
- Knowledge of cloud cost management tooling and FinOps practices applied at organizational scale
- Familiarity with GitOps workflows using ArgoCD or Flux for declarative, auditable deployments
