Cloud Hardware Technician
The job description
Tech stack. Fleet-scale server repair, hardware diagnostics at scale, Linux basics, automation-assisted repair workflows, quality metrics and dashboards, custom (OCP-style) server platforms, rapid triage procedures, FRU-level repair
About the role
You will repair servers at true fleet scale for a major cloud provider operating custom-designed hardware measured in the hundreds of thousands of units. Your environment is optimized for velocity and consistency: streamlined diagnostics, purpose-built tooling, and workflows refined over millions of completed repairs. You will triage failed servers quickly and accurately, repair them precisely to procedure, and feed structured data back into a system that continuously improves designs, diagnostics, and processes. Your throughput, your quality, and your data all matter at this scale. You will work with the latest custom server designs before they are publicly known, developing repair expertise on hardware the rest of the industry has never seen. Your feedback will reach design teams through structured channels, making future generations easier to service.
What you will achieve
- Sustain repair throughput meeting daily targets while holding quality defect rates below 1 percent, verified by post-repair automated testing on every unit.
- Triage failed servers accurately within target times, routing each unit to the correct repair path on first assessment with misroute rates near zero.
- Master custom server platforms quickly, including any liquid cooling, high-density compute, or accelerator configurations unique to the fleet.
- Contribute repair observations and failure data that drive engineering improvements, with your documented findings reaching design teams through established feedback channels.
- Maintain perfect process compliance in an environment where consistency at scale is the quality system and deviations affect thousands of units.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of server hardware repair, high-volume electronics service, or manufacturing test experience.
- Fast, accurate diagnostic ability under throughput pressure without sacrificing method.
- Comfort with custom and non-standard hardware designs that differ from retail server platforms.
- Basic Linux skills for system verification, log review, and post-repair validation.
- Strong process discipline and comfort working in a metrics-driven performance environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications valued.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with OCP (Open Compute Project) hardware designs and their service models.
- Familiarity with automated test stations and repair workflow software.
- Background in high-volume manufacturing, depot repair, or refurbishment operations.
- Knowledge of accelerator (GPU/AI) server hardware and its service requirements.
