Chief Nuclear Technologist
The job description
Tech stack. Technology strategy, advanced reactor portfolios, R&D investment decisions, regulatory policy engagement, industry leadership, technical due diligence, long-range innovation planning
About the role
You will set the technology direction for a nuclear company's future as its senior technical leader, deciding which innovations to pursue and which to leave behind. The role spans R&D portfolios, advanced reactor strategy, regulatory policy engagement, and industry leadership. You will evaluate technologies, guide investments, and represent the company's technical vision externally. This role matters because the nuclear industry's future depends on leaders who combine deep technical judgment with strategic vision, and your decisions shape what the company and the industry become. You will also represent the company in international forums where the future of nuclear technology is debated and decided. Your technology assessments will be sought by investors and policymakers navigating the nuclear renaissance. You will champion a culture of technical excellence and intellectual honesty, where the best argument wins regardless of rank. Your legacy will be measured in the technologies deployed and the leaders developed, not in the titles held. Your technical curiosity will remain hands-on, because leaders who stop learning stop leading. You will also lead the technology due-diligence reviews that decide which advanced reactor concepts earn R&D investment and which are set aside with clear technical rationale.
What you will achieve
- Define the technology roadmap guiding R&D investment with clear milestones and decision gates.
- Evaluate advanced reactor and fuel technologies, directing resources to the most promising options.
- Engage regulators and policymakers shaping frameworks that enable innovation while preserving safety.
- Build partnerships with laboratories, universities, and vendors accelerating technology development.
- Develop technical talent pipelines ensuring the organization has the expertise its future requires.
