Chief Electrical Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Company-wide technical strategy, electrical architecture governance, technology roadmapping, executive technical communication, standards and platform strategy, talent development, make-versus-buy decisions, IP strategy
About the role
You will be the company's ultimate technical authority on all things electrical at an industrial technology company whose product portfolio spans drives, controls, and power systems sold globally. Every major electrical decision in the company will carry your judgment: architecture bets that commit years of R&D, platform investments, build-versus-buy calls on critical technologies, and the technical standards every team follows. You will shape the technology roadmap for a decade, build the engineering organization that executes it, and represent the company's electrical technology to the customers, partners, and board members who bet on it.
What you will achieve
- Set the ten-year electrical technology strategy, choosing platform directions in power electronics, control architectures, and connectivity that keep the portfolio competitive through multiple market cycles.
- Govern architecture across all product lines, ensuring consistency where it creates leverage (common platforms, shared IP) and freedom where differentiation demands it, with clear rationale documented.
- Make the company's hardest technical calls with incomplete data and real deadlines, owning outcomes on bets worth tens of millions in R&D investment and defending them with intellectual honesty.
- Build and develop the electrical engineering leadership bench, growing principal and staff engineers who extend your technical reach into every corner of the company.
- Represent the company's electrical technology to major customers, strategic partners, and the board, translating deep technical content into strategic clarity that drives business decisions.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 15 or more years of electrical engineering experience with recognized mastery across multiple domains and product generations.
- Track record of setting technical direction adopted across a company or an industry segment, with evidence of lasting impact.
- Experience making large technology investment decisions with direct business consequences, including living with the outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and retain senior technical talent through growth and difficult periods.
- Executive-level communication: crisp, honest, and decisive on technical matters with non-technical audiences.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; advanced degree strongly preferred.
Nice-to-haves
- Industry recognition: standards committee leadership, keynote invitations, or equivalent peer acknowledgment.
- Experience with M&A technical diligence or technology portfolio rationalization decisions.
- Background spanning both product engineering execution and advanced technology development.
- Familiarity with global engineering organizations and cross-cultural technical leadership.
