CAD Design Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Advanced CAD (SolidWorks, Creo, or NX), large assembly management, advanced surfacing, GD&T, PDM/PLM administration, drawing automation and templates, design standards development
About the role
You will be the CAD authority at an engineering services firm supporting clients across consumer products, medical devices, and industrial equipment. Your models are the master record that everyone builds from: complex assemblies with clean feature trees, robust parametric relationships, and drawings that manufacturing executes without questions. You will take rough concepts, engineer markups, and incomplete inputs and turn them into precise, well-structured CAD data that survives design changes gracefully and transfers cleanly to clients. You will create detailed 3D models and production drawings that communicate design intent completely and unambiguously to manufacturing. Your mastery of parametric modeling, assemblies, and drawing standards will make you the person engineers rely on for complex geometry. You will manage CAD data with discipline, because a messy model tree becomes everyone's problem.
What you will achieve
- Deliver complex CAD models and assemblies (500+ components) with clean, logical feature trees that other engineers can modify confidently without rebuilding from scratch.
- Produce drawing packages with correct, inspection-ready GD&T that pass client review with minimal comments and survive manufacturing without deviations.
- Cut modeling rework across the firm by establishing and enforcing CAD standards: naming conventions, templates, library parts, modeling best practices, and review checklists.
- Manage large-assembly performance expertly through configurations, lightweight and simplified representations, and intelligent assembly structure that keeps even huge models workable.
- Support rapid client design iterations, turning around revisions in hours while maintaining model integrity, drawing accuracy, and revision control.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of intensive CAD work on complex mechanical products with real production outcomes.
- Expert-level proficiency with a major parametric CAD tool, including advanced surfacing, top-down design, and complex assembly techniques.
- Strong GD&T knowledge and drawing standards expertise applied to inspection and manufacturing, not just theory.
- Experience with PDM/PLM systems for revision control, collaboration, and release workflows.
- Ability to work from rough sketches, marked-up drawings, and verbal descriptions to finished, accurate models.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
Nice-to-haves
- CAD certification (CSWP/CSWE, Creo certification, or NX equivalent).
- Experience with photorealistic rendering and visualization for client presentations and marketing.
- Familiarity with multiple CAD platforms, data translation, and neutral format best practices.
- Knowledge of design automation: configurations, design tables, and macro-driven modeling.
