Bluetooth/WiFi Firmware Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Bluetooth LE stack (GAP/GATT), WiFi 802.11 integration on MCUs, coexistence arbitration, RF protocol analyzers (Ellisys, Frontline), throughput and power optimization, Bluetooth SIG and regulatory certification
About the role
You will own wireless connectivity firmware completely: the Bluetooth and WiFi protocol stacks that connect devices to phones, access points, and each other in the real world. Wireless firmware engineers operate at the intersection of protocol specifications, RF physics, and chaotic field conditions, where the standard promises one behavior and hundreds of phone models deliver another. You will debug interoperability failures with surgical precision, optimize throughput and power consumption simultaneously, and shepherd products through certification processes. Your firmware is the deciding factor in whether customers say the product "just works" or flood support channels with connectivity complaints.
What you will achieve
- Deliver genuinely robust BLE and WiFi connectivity: stable long-duration connections, fast intelligent reconnection, and graceful degradation in congested RF environments
- Achieve Bluetooth SIG qualification and regulatory certification (FCC, CE) on schedule through disciplined pre-testing, documentation, and process management
- Optimize the fundamental power-versus-performance trade-off: connection parameters, advertising strategies, and WiFi power-save modes, all tuned with measurements
- Debug interoperability failures systematically: protocol analyzer captures, specification analysis, and pragmatic workarounds for non-compliant peer devices
- Manage coexistence between BLE, WiFi, and additional radios sharing antennas and spectrum through measured, validated arbitration schemes
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years developing Bluetooth LE or WiFi firmware with products that passed certification and shipped to customers
- Deep BLE protocol knowledge: GAP roles, GATT service architecture, advertising and scanning, connection parameters, security modes, and bonding
- WiFi fundamentals on embedded targets: provisioning user experiences, station and AP modes, roaming behavior, power-save mechanisms, and enterprise security
- Experience with wireless protocol analyzers such as Ellisys, Frontline, or Wireshark for capturing and diagnosing over-the-air issues
- Understanding of RF concepts sufficient for firmware decisions: RSSI interpretation, antenna diversity behavior, and coexistence principles
- Familiarity with certification processes: Bluetooth SIG qualification listings, WiFi Alliance programs, and regulatory testing for intentional radiators
- BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with Bluetooth mesh networking, Auracast broadcast audio, or LE Audio implementations
- Familiarity with WiFi 6 and 6E features: OFDMA, target wake time, and their implications for embedded designs
- Knowledge of Thread, Zigbee, or Matter-over-Thread for smart-home product ecosystems
- Experience with RF chamber testing and quantitative antenna performance validation
