Automotive Software Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. C++, Python, Linux/QNX/Android Automotive, SOME/IP, DDS, CI/CD (Jenkins/GitLab), Docker, vehicle APIs and middleware
About the role
You will join the vehicle software team of an automaker building the software-defined vehicle: infotainment-adjacent services, vehicle APIs, cloud connectivity, and application platforms running on high-performance computers. The team ships software the way tech companies do, on automotive timelines. This role matters because software is now the primary differentiator customers pay for, and your code determines whether the vehicle feels modern at delivery and stays modern through years of updates. You will write production C++ for safety-relevant ECUs under MISRA guidelines, with unit test coverage and static analysis gates enforced in CI before any merge. Your work will span vehicle functions from body control to energy management, each with requirements traced to system-level hazards. You will also support over-the-air update campaigns, designing software with rollback safety and backward compatibility so a failed flash never bricks a customer vehicle. You will also participate in joint reviews with suppliers to align interface contracts before integration testing begins.
What you will achieve
- Deliver vehicle software features (connectivity, OTA, digital key, or vehicle apps) used by 100k+ vehicles with crash-free rates above 99.9 percent
- Cut feature lead time by 30 percent through CI/CD pipelines with automated testing on hardware-in-the-loop and vehicle fleets
- Own service-level software on HPC platforms: SOME/IP interfaces, state management, and power-mode-aware behavior
- Drive OTA update reliability: delta packages, A/B partitions, and rollback logic with zero bricking events
- Ship software meeting automotive cybersecurity requirements: threat analysis, secure coding, and penetration test remediation
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of experience developing software for automotive or embedded Linux/QNX platforms
- Strong C++ (14/17) and Python skills with modern software engineering practices
- Understanding of automotive software architectures: service-oriented, middleware (SOME/IP, DDS), and HPC/zone controller topologies
- Experience with CI/CD, containerized builds, and automated testing for embedded targets
- Working knowledge of vehicle networks and diagnostics as they relate to software features
- Familiarity with Linux system programming: processes, IPC, networking, and resource constraints
- Disciplined code review, unit testing, and documentation habits
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with Android Automotive OS or QNX Hypervisor platforms
- Knowledge of UN R155/R156 cybersecurity and software update regulations
- Familiarity with cloud backends (AWS/Azure) for connected vehicle services
- Exposure to ASPICE or ISO 26262 software processes
