Automotive Mixed Signal Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, Calibre, AEC-Q100 qualification flows, ISO 26262 work products, high-voltage BCD or CMOS PDKs
About the role
You will design automotive-grade mixed-signal circuits at an automotive chipmaker whose parts go into vehicles that must work for 15 years in brutal conditions. The team builds sensor interfaces, power drivers, and monitoring circuits that meet AEC-Q100 qualification and ISO 26262 functional safety targets. This role matters because a field failure in automotive is a recall, and your design rigor is what keeps the company's parts off that list. You will work with quality and reliability engineering through qualification, and your design margins will be audited against standards that leave no room for optimism.
What you will achieve
- Ship automotive-qualified mixed-signal blocks (sensor interfaces, current sensing, voltage monitoring, or gate drivers) that pass AEC-Q100 Grade 1 temperature and lifetime requirements with margin.
- Drive functional safety compliance: deliver FMEDA inputs, diagnostic coverage analysis, and safety mechanisms for your blocks that meet the assigned ASIL target on schedule.
- Reduce field-failure risk through design margin: your blocks will hold spec across the full automotive temperature range (-40C to 150C), supply transients, and lifetime drift with guard-banded simulation.
- Own robustness verification: latch-up, ESD (HBM/CDM at automotive levels), EMC susceptibility, and load-dump or transient testing planned and executed with the validation team.
- Cut qualification surprises by closing reliability sign-off (electromigration, TDDB, HCI, NBTI) before tapeout and reviewing qualification test results against your design margins.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2-5 years designing analog/mixed-signal circuits for automotive or other high-reliability applications, with qualified silicon on your record.
- Working knowledge of AEC-Q100 qualification: what it demands of your design, and how to build margin for temperature, lifetime, and stress.
- Familiarity with ISO 26262 functional safety concepts: ASIL levels, FMEDA, diagnostic coverage, and safety mechanisms at the circuit level.
- Experience designing across wide temperature and supply ranges with attention to drift, aging, and worst-case analysis.
- Fluency in Spectre corners and Monte Carlo plus reliability analyses (EM, aging) in the Cadence flow.
- Understanding of automotive electrical hazards: load dump, reverse battery, short-to-battery, and ESD levels beyond consumer norms.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with high-voltage BCD processes and level shifters or HV drivers.
- Knowledge of EMC/EMI design practices for automotive ICs.
- Familiarity with zero-defect quality initiatives (DPPM targets, part average testing).
