Automotive Analog Design Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Automotive analog IC design, AEC-Q100 qualification, high-temperature design, Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, functional safety (ISO 26262), EMC-aware design
About the role
You will design automotive-grade analog integrated circuits at a semiconductor company, building the sensor interfaces, power management, and signal conditioning that vehicles depend on for safety and performance in ADAS, powertrain, and body electronics. Automotive analog designers work under the industry's most demanding reliability requirements: their circuits must operate flawlessly from arctic cold to under-hood heat, survive load dumps and ESD strikes, meet stringent EMC limits, and satisfy functional safety standards. You will design for zero defects across a 15-year vehicle lifetime.
What you will achieve
- Design automotive analog blocks including sensor interfaces, signal conditioning chains, and power management meeting AEC-Q100 qualification requirements across the full temperature range.
- Implement functional safety mechanisms per ISO 26262 including diagnostics, redundancy, and fail-safe behaviors appropriate to the target ASIL level.
- Design for EMC robustness including immunity to conducted and radiated disturbances and minimal emissions, applying automotive-hardened design practices from schematic through layout.
- Analyze worst-case circuit behavior across temperature, voltage, aging, and process variation with the rigor that safety-critical applications demand, ensuring margin under all conditions.
- Design high-temperature-capable circuits operating reliably at junction temperatures exceeding 150C, managing leakage, drift, and reliability mechanisms that dominate at extremes.
- Support automotive qualification including HTOL, ESD, latch-up, and EMC testing, debugging failures systematically and implementing robust fixes validated through extended stress testing.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 5 to 8 years of experience in automotive or high-reliability analog design with qualified, shipped products.
- Deep understanding of AEC-Q100 qualification requirements and automotive operating conditions.
- Knowledge of ISO 26262 functional safety concepts including ASIL decomposition, diagnostics, and FMEDA.
- Strong analog design fundamentals applied to sensor interfaces, power management, or signal conditioning.
- Experience with EMC-aware design including filtering, shielding, grounding, and layout practices for emissions and immunity.
- Proficiency with Cadence tools including worst-case and statistical analysis for safety-critical verification.
- Reliability mindset: you design for the worst case as the normal case and verify accordingly.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with specific automotive applications such as battery management, motor control, or ADAS sensing.
- Familiarity with zero-defect methodologies and automotive quality systems.
- Knowledge of high-voltage design techniques for EV applications.
- Background in electromagnetic compatibility testing and debug.
