About Epirus
Epirus is a high-growth technology company dedicated to overcoming the asymmetric challenges inherent to the future of national security. Epirus' flagship product, Leonidas, is a software-defined system built using intelligent power management techniques which allow power-hungry systems to do more with less.
Job Summary:
As a Chief Engineer of Simulation at Epirus, you will be responsible for introducing a new product: a real‑time, game‑grade simulation and synthetic environment platform built from the same architectural principles that power Leonidas and our high‑power microwave systems. This product will give defense customers a way to design, test, train and rehearse mission scenarios for counter‑UAS, counter‑swarm, and counter‑electronics operations. The result is more confident planning, faster validation, and clearer proof of mission effectiveness.
This role is a true 0 to 1 build. You will define the technical vision and create the first working version yourself. This provides a unique opportunity to build out a team that turns a prototype into a fully operational product. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer allows this position to work cross-functionally while guiding the platform from a blank slate through every stage of development into a fielded capability with a system that becomes central to how customers plan and execute engagements.
Responsibilities
- Direct ownership of the architecture for the entire platform, including the real‑time engine, the simulation core, asset‑data ingestion, scenario creation, and deployment in GovCloud.
- Responsible for optimizing and evaluating Epirus systems, identifying areas of technical risk, and establishing a clear technical path forward.
- Build the first end‑to‑end version from asset data to scenario to live execution, and demonstrate it in an Epirus environment.
- Define and manage the interface between the simulation and real Epirus assets, ensuring accurate data models, telemetry flows, and fidelity to fielded systems.
- Build and lead a highly reliable and multidisciplinary team within product development encompassing engine development, simulation, backend, and platform work.
Translate customer mission needs into technical action through a coherent scenario framework and a strategic product roadmap.
- Define and establish engineering standards for code quality, testing, and release processes, and create strong verification and validation practices.
- Lead the path to GovCloud IL4 and IL5, RMF, and ATO in partnership with security engineering.
- Extreme ownership of production operations, project management, and long‑term sustainment of the platform.
- Stay hands‑on by reviewing code, prototyping difficult technical challenges, and removing blockers for the team.
- Remain nested with customer requirements, priorities, feedback, and inputs to deliver capability responsively.
- Manage technical risks, critical dependencies, and program timelines to meet customer commitments.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics.
- 12+ years of demonstrated leadership experience within simulation engineering.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Masters of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics.
- 5+ years of experience leading technical teams that shipped complex simulation software.
- Demonstrated professional expertise in at least one of the following: real-time 3D / game engine (Unreal, Unity, or bespoke) or modeling and simulation of complex systems.
- Familiarity with platforms such as Simulink,MATLAB, or Altair.
- Demonstrated full development lifecycle ownership of product from inception to delivery encompassing: requirement gathering, architectural decisions, delegation of deliveries testing, and maintenance.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and flexibility with changing requirements.
- Delivered software into defense or regulated environments (GovCloud, RMF/ATO, or classified).
- Demonstrated ability to own game-grade real-time systems and defense mission software.
- Familiarity with directed-energy, RF, electronic warfare, or counter-UAS systems.
- Distributed simulation standards or digital-twin experience.
- Knowledge of geospatial and terrain rendering at scale.
Addition Requirements:
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
- To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the
