Software Engineer
Theron Defense builds autonomous weapons systems. Our first product is a vehicle mounted turret that detects, tracks, and takes down drones on its own, running Theron's own AI targeting models. The hard problem is hitting small drones at combat speed from a vehicle moving over rough terrain. We're demoing the turret live for the US and Ukrainian militaries now.
We hire fewer engineers, pay above market, and work in person. Every engineer owns large pieces of the system end to end.
What you'll own
- Architect and build major parts of the turret's software, from sensor input to targeting to actuation
- Take systems from first design through field test and live demo
- Integrate software with cameras, motors, LiDAR, and other sensors on real hardware
- Make the calls on architecture, tooling, and tradeoffs, and live with the results
- Pick up whatever the system needs next, inside or outside your lane
What we need
- You have architected a complex system end to end, and can walk us through every decision
- You want to own more than seems reasonable, and you work hard and independently without hand holding
- Junior through senior. We care about what you've built, not your title or years
Nice to have
- Software that talks to hardware: cameras, motors, LiDAR, or other sensors
- Robotics, autonomy, or controls background
- Time at a high output company or a startup that won
No robotics background? Apply anyway. A strong engineer from outside robotics picks this up fast.
Logistics
- Onsite in San Francisco or Reno
- US citizenship required [confirm, see fields above]
- No clearance required
- Base $150K to $250K plus 0.1% to 1.5% equity [confirm top of band before publishing]
Matching profile
Match on proof of end to end ownership, not on robotics keywords. Hagen will take a strong generalist from outside robotics over a narrow specialist.
