Manufacturing Engineer
Autonymy is building the data infrastructure backbone that America's most critical operations depend on. We design and manufacture intelligent, multi-WAN edge devices that ensure resilient data orchestration in the world's most demanding environments—from defense operations to industrial facilities, energy infrastructure, and mining operations. Our technology replaces legacy radio systems with next-generation solutions built for reliability, ruggedization, and intelligent network orchestration at the edge. As robotics and autonomous systems reshape how critical work gets done, we're providing the foundational infrastructure that makes it possible. We're a team of builders solving hard problems that matter, and we're looking for talented engineers and operators who want to work on technology that strengthens American capabilities and industrial leadership.
As the first Manufacturing Engineer at Autonymy, you will lead the design and launch of manufacturing lines to produce our smart radio devices. Operating at the interface between proof-of-concept and scalable production, you will work with cross-functional teams to develop high-quality, efficient manufacturing equipment and processes. We are looking for a hands-on engineer with a heavy emphasis on robotics and automation experience to build out our factory capabilities. You will take ownership, move fast, and make critical design decisions that directly impact the performance and reliability of systems deployed in defense and critical infrastructure applications.
What You'll Do
- Process & Equipment Design: Develop equipment, fixtures, and processes to support early-stage prototype builds and scale for high-volume production.
- Automation & Robotics Integration: Lead the specification, design, and procurement of semi-automated to fully automated manufacturing equipment and robotic systems.
- Supplier Management: Oversee equipment integrators and suppliers through the specification, design, buyoff, and installation phases.
- DFM & DFA Feedback: Provide critical Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Automation (DFA) input to the hardware engineering team to improve yields.
- Production Handoff: Create detailed manufacturing instructions and technical documentation to train technicians and ensure smooth transitions to operations.
- What We’re Looking For
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a hands-on Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Design Engineer working on complex mechanical or electromechanical systems.
- Deep expertise and proven track record in integrating robotics, automated functional testing, and deploying fully automated manufacturing systems.
- Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment and collaborating with integrators.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD design for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks, CATIA) and 2D conceptual line design (AutoCAD).
- Hands-on experience with workstation design, conveyance, adhesive dispensing, and
- DC fastening tools.
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and system stack-up analysis.
- Proven process control experience.
- Energy and aim to thrive in a startup environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have
- Masters or PhD in engineering
- Experience deploying automated systems for high-reliability hardware, defense electronics, or ruggedized industrial products.
- Please note: Autonymy is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.
- What we provide:
- Great pay (including equity) and benefits
- Mission-driven environment rooted in engineering rigor
