The job description
Tech stack. C, BLE 5.x stacks, Wi-Fi (802.11), Zigbee/Thread, LoRa/LoRaWAN, RF debugging (spectrum analyzer, sniffer), Nordic/Silicon Labs/Espressif SDKs
About the role
You will join a wireless sensor company whose mesh-networked devices monitor infrastructure across cities and industrial sites. The wireless team owns the radio firmware: protocol stacks, mesh routing, and the RF performance that determines whether a thousand-node deployment works or falls apart. This role matters because wireless is unforgiving: you cannot patch physics, and a deployment that works on the bench but fails in a concrete building is a failed product.
What you will achieve
- Ship a Thread-based mesh firmware supporting 500+ node networks with 99% end-to-end delivery in real building environments, proven in three pilot deployments, with deployment reports shared across engineering and product
- Drive BLE 5.x long-range performance to the link budget limit, achieving reliable connections at 10x the range of the previous generation in open-field testing, documented in the RF performance baseline
- Reduce join and commissioning time for new nodes from minutes to under 30 seconds across the full mesh, measured in the 500-node test deployment
- Build an RF validation suite (conducted and radiated) that catches antenna and matching regressions before production, integrated into the hardware release gate, with pass/fail criteria agreed with the hardware team
- Own coexistence testing against Wi-Fi and other 2.4 GHz interferers, holding packet delivery above 98% in congested spectrum as verified in chamber testing
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2-5 years developing wireless firmware on commercial stacks such as BLE, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Thread, or LoRaWAN
- Strong C with a working understanding of RF fundamentals: link budgets, RSSI interpretation, and antenna matching basics
- Hands-on experience with at least one vendor wireless SDK such as Nordic nRF Connect, Silicon Labs, or Espressif IDF
- Experience debugging wireless issues with sniffers, spectrum analyzers, and protocol analyzers
- Knowledge of mesh networking concepts: routing, flooding, sleepy end devices, and commissioning flows
- Familiarity with wireless certification processes including FCC, CE, and Bluetooth SIG qualification
- Low-power wireless design: connection intervals, advertising strategies, and sleep coordination across the network
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with sub-GHz proprietary protocols or LoRaWAN network server integration
- Knowledge of Wi-Fi 6 features relevant to IoT such as TWT and BSS coloring
- Familiarity with Matter over Thread commissioning and certification
