Senior eVTOL Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. eVTOL vehicle development, cross-disciplinary design trades, preliminary design, MATLAB, Python, CAD, systems thinking, design review leadership
About the role
You will join an eVTOL aircraft company as a senior technical contributor who can work across propulsion, structures, and systems to solve the vehicle-level problems that do not fit neatly in one team. This role exists for engineers who have shipped aircraft hardware and can be dropped onto the hardest integration problems. Your judgment will shape configuration decisions that are expensive to reverse, and junior engineers will learn how to think by watching you work. You will be deployed where the program hurts most, across team boundaries and disciplines, and your ability to get hard problems unstuck will make you one of the most leveraged engineers in the company.
What you will achieve
- Lead cross-disciplinary design trades, from configuration changes to subsystem selection, delivering recommendations the chief engineers adopt with confidence.
- Own the technical resolution of the program's hardest integration problems, closing issues that have stalled between teams for weeks.
- Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through design reviews, raising the quality of analysis and the speed of decisions across the organization.
- Drive a major subsystem or vehicle-level milestone, such as CDR or first flight readiness, delivering on schedule with clean review outcomes.
- Reduce program risk by identifying weak technical assumptions early and replacing them with test-validated data before they harden into design. You institutionalize each lesson so the organization stops repeating the same mistakes on the next program.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 5 to 8 years developing aircraft, rotorcraft, or complex electric vehicles, with hardware you shipped to test or production.
- Demonstrated ability to work across at least two engineering disciplines, such as structures and propulsion or systems and software.
- Track record of leading design trades with quantified outcomes, not just participating in working groups.
- Strong fundamentals in aerodynamics, structures, or electrical systems, with enough breadth to challenge analyses outside your specialty.
- Experience presenting to chief engineers and executives, defending technical positions with data under pressure.
- History of mentoring engineers and measurably improving review quality around you.
Nice-to-haves
- Prior eVTOL or electric aircraft program experience.
- Flight test or certification program exposure.
- Advanced degree in aerospace, electrical, or mechanical engineering.
- Experience with supplier technical management on critical subsystems.
