Principal Electrical Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. System-level architecture, advanced SPICE and multiphysics simulation, signal and power integrity tooling, DFMEA, reliability statistics and Weibull analysis, technology roadmapping, cross-functional design governance, patent portfolio development
About the role
You will serve as the top individual technical authority for electrical engineering at a company whose products depend on power electronics operating flawlessly for decades in harsh environments. Your scope spans every product line and every electrical engineer in the organization. You will set architecture direction for the next generation of products, adjudicate the hardest technical disputes with data, and make sure the company's electrical platform scales from today's revenue products to technologies that do not exist yet. You will also govern the DFMEA and reliability statistics practice across product lines, ensuring Weibull analysis and derating discipline are real engineering habits rather than checkbox exercises.
What you will achieve
- Define the multi-year electrical architecture roadmap, selecting platform approaches for power conversion, control, and sensing that serve at least three future product generations without fundamental rework.
- Drive org-wide design standards for derating, grounding, EMC, and electrical safety that cut design escapes and certification rework measurably across all teams within two years.
- Resolve the company's most consequential technical disputes with analysis and measured evidence, unblocking programs worth millions in revenue and preventing expensive late-stage pivots.
- Build lasting technical leverage by creating reusable reference designs, simulation templates, and review checklists that raise every team's output quality and shorten new-hire ramp time.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers into recognized technical leaders, expanding the organization's capacity to tackle harder problems without proportional headcount growth.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 12 or more years of electrical engineering experience with deep expertise spanning power, analog, and digital domains.
- Track record of defining architectures adopted across multiple product lines or product generations.
- Recognized authority in at least one specialty: power electronics, EMC, high-voltage design, or high-reliability systems, with evidence peers seek your judgment.
- Experience setting engineering standards and driving their adoption across a multi-team organization.
- Exceptional technical communication: you align executives, customers, and engineers on hard trade-offs with clarity and honesty.
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
Nice-to-haves
- Patents issued or peer-reviewed publications in electrical engineering.
- Experience with functional safety standards such as IEC 61508 or ISO 26262.
- Background in building or scaling an electrical engineering organization through growth.
- Familiarity with systems engineering practices for complex electromechanical products.
