Precision Analog Design Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. Precision analog design, chopper and auto-zero techniques, Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, low-drift references, statistical mismatch analysis, instrumentation amplifiers, thermocouple effect mitigation, long-term drift analysis
About the role
You will design precision analog circuits at a semiconductor company, building the instrumentation amplifiers, references, and converters that achieve microvolt offsets and part-per-million stability for industrial, medical, and test-and-measurement applications. Precision analog designers pursue the limits of what silicon can measure: their circuits must maintain accuracy across temperature, time, and process variation that would swamp lesser designs, demanding both theoretical depth and experimental care. You will master chopper stabilization, auto-zero, curvature-corrected references, and layout techniques that squeeze the last digits of precision from CMOS.
What you will achieve
- Design precision amplifiers including instrumentation amplifiers, chopper-stabilized op-amps, and auto-zero amplifiers achieving microvolt-level offset and drift, verified through temperature sweep characterization.
- Design ultra-stable voltage references with curvature correction, achieving single-digit ppm per degree Celsius temperature coefficients across the industrial temperature range.
- Implement offset and drift cancellation using chopping, auto-zero, correlated double sampling, or digital trimming, selecting techniques based on quantitative noise, power, and area tradeoffs.
- Analyze error budgets comprehensively including offset, drift, noise, PSRR, CMRR, and long-term stability, allocating specifications across the signal chain.
- Design for low-frequency precision, managing 1/f noise, thermocouple effects, package stress, and humidity sensitivity that dominate precision performance.
- Validate precision circuits with meticulous bench characterization including temperature sweeps, long-term drift measurements, and statistical sampling across production lots, documenting results with the rigor calibration laboratories expect.
