Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. DFM and DFA, process development and validation, tooling and fixture design, statistical process control, lean manufacturing, supplier quality management, cost analysis, PFMEA, GD&T for manufacturing
About the role
You will make designs manufacturable at a company producing high-volume electromechanical assemblies for the appliance industry where pennies per unit decide profitability. Your factory floor is your customer: you will take engineering releases and turn them into processes that run at rate, at yield, and at cost from the first production shift. When production struggles with a design that looked fine on screen, you will be the engineer who redesigns the part, the fixture, or the process to fix it permanently, then proves the fix with data. You will bridge design and production, developing manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures that build quality in rather than inspecting it in. Your process improvements will reduce cost and cycle time while holding tolerances.
What you will achieve
- Launch new products into production meeting yield targets above 98 percent and takt time requirements from the first week of ramp, not after months of firefighting.
- Reduce manufacturing cost per unit year over year through process improvements, fixture investments, automation opportunities, and design-for-assembly changes proposed back to product engineering.
- Drive root-cause resolution of production quality issues with structured methods (8D, 5 Whys, fishbone), implementing fixes verified by statistical evidence rather than hopeful adjustments.
- Develop and qualify manufacturing processes (pressing, staking, fastening, adhesive bonding, functional testing) with documented process windows, controls, and reaction plans.
- Build PFMEAs and control plans for new lines that anticipate the most common failure modes and prevent them before first production.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 2 to 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience on mechanical or electromechanical products in production environments.
- Deep DFM knowledge across machining, stamping, molding, die casting, and manual and automated assembly processes.
- Experience with statistical process control, capability studies (Cp/Cpk), and measurement system analysis.
- Ability to design tooling and fixtures that make processes robust, repeatable, and operator-proof.
- Strong structured problem-solving discipline applied to real line issues with documented results.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- Lean or Six Sigma certification with implemented, measured projects.
- Experience with high-volume automated assembly lines and their unique failure modes.
- Background in supplier development, audits, and production part approval processes.
- Familiarity with traceability systems for regulated or warranty-sensitive products.
