The job description
Tech stack. fab fundamentals, SPC basics, data collection, lot tracking, shift hand-offs, engineering change requests, JMP/Excel
About the role
A wafer fab is hiring junior engineers to grow into full process or integration ownership, investing in people who will become the fab's technical backbone. You will start by supporting senior engineers on daily fab operations: tracking lots, collecting data, running SPC checks, and learning how a fab really works beyond what coursework covers. Structured mentorship turns your academic foundation into production skill, and engineers who master the fundamentals here advance faster than anywhere else in the industry.
What you will achieve
- Ship reliable daily fab support with lot tracking, data collection, and SPC chart reviews completed accurately every shift, becoming the engineer others trust with routine execution.
- Drive your own learning plan with your mentor so you independently own a small process area or project within 12 months, progressing from support tasks to real ownership.
- Reduce data-reporting errors to near zero through careful, methodical work habits, building a reputation for accuracy that senior engineers rely on.
- Own at least one continuous-improvement project per year, such as a control-chart cleanup, documentation update, or minor process tweak with measured results.
- Build cross-functional relationships with operators, technicians, and engineers that make hand-offs seamless and give you allies across every shift.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- BS in electrical engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, physics, or related field, with solid academic performance in relevant coursework.
- Internship, co-op, or academic project experience in semiconductors, cleanrooms, or process labs that shows genuine interest in the field.
- Basic understanding of semiconductor fabrication steps and terminology, enough to follow a process flow conversation.
- Strong Excel or data-handling skills, with Python or JMP familiarity as a plus for analysis tasks.
- Eagerness to learn fab operations, including shift work and on-call rotations, with a growth mindset about feedback and a genuine curiosity about how fabs operate.
- Clear communication and a habit of asking questions early rather than guessing, especially when production material is at stake, and escalating promptly when unsure.
Nice-to-haves
- Cleanroom experience from university nanofabrication facilities with hands-on tool operation.
- Six Sigma or statistics coursework beyond the introductory level.
- Familiarity with SPC concepts and control charts from coursework or internships.
