Junior Drone Engineer
The job description
Tech stack. UAV assembly and maintenance, PX4/ArduPilot basics, soldering and wiring, Python scripting, flight test support, technical documentation, CAD fundamentals
About the role
You will join a drone technology company as a junior engineer learning the craft of unmanned aircraft from the ground up. You will work alongside experienced engineers assembling aircraft, supporting flight tests, running analyses, and documenting everything you learn. This role is built for growth: expect real responsibility early, close mentorship from senior engineers, and a fast path to owning your own work as your skills prove out. You will rotate through build, test, and analysis assignments during your first year to build a broad foundation across the aircraft, and you will present what you learn in team demos that sharpen both your technical communication and the group's shared knowledge.
What you will achieve
- Become a reliable builder: assemble, wire, and configure UAVs to specification with minimal rework within your first months on the team.
- Support flight test operations by preparing aircraft, running checklists, collecting clean data, and writing clear and honest test reports.
- Grow your analysis skills by completing guided design and test tasks, from component selection studies to flight log analysis.
- Improve team processes by documenting build procedures, lessons learned, and troubleshooting guides as you learn them firsthand.
- Earn increasing ownership: take on a defined subsystem or workstream and deliver it successfully with mentorship support.
What you will bring
Must-haves
- 0-2 years of experience, which can include internships, university UAV teams, or serious personal drone projects with real flight time.
- Hands-on building experience: you have assembled and flown multirotors or fixed-wing aircraft and can solder cleanly and consistently.
- Basic familiarity with PX4 or ArduPilot configuration and ground control software for mission planning.
- Python scripting ability for data analysis, log parsing, and simple automation tasks.
- Strong documentation habits and clear written communication that others can build on.
- Eagerness to learn across disciplines and to take direct feedback well.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
Nice-to-haves
- Part 107 certification or active progress toward obtaining it.
- Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360, or with 3D printing for prototyping.
- Contributions to open-source drone projects or competition teams.
- Basic electronics troubleshooting skills with multimeters and oscilloscopes.
